Nice work on the panel replacement work. Can't really tell from the photos ...I can see that you are not 'butt-welding' the replacement panels to the existing body panels, so are you flanging the body-side of the metal and then doing a lap-joint weld?? If you are flanging, what tool are you using? I need to do this exact same work on my 66 bug, so looking for a little more detail ..... |

OP, where do you live? Must be salt country from what I've seen. I've got a '67 bug, California all it's life. It's intact. Want to buy it? |

I can get a Cleico-like result using pop-rivets ...same process: line up the work, drill a hole, pop in a rivet ..etc. etc. And then, after most of the welding is done, simply grind off the rivet with a flap disk, and plug-weld the hole. Works especially well in situations where you can easily retreive the pop rivet stubs so they don't end up rattling around inside the body somewhere. Red-neck Cleicos, I guess .... |
Cleicos you can reuse there spring loaded so it brings the panels tight together and I can take the panel on and of for fitting without drilling out rivets and a kit costs about 20.00 or less but yes you could use rivets I have and don't think they work as well |

Dude, I feel your pain. I too suffer from gout from time to time. I can deal with it in my feet. But when I get an attack in the knees. It's all over. I'm down for at least four days. It sucks.
Get well and work on your 67 when you can. It all takes time to complete.
I wish you well. _________________ I have learned over the years.
