Howdy,
way past due for an update. The car is up and running. I have about 500 hard miles on it testing and tuning. Car is running great. Just ordered all the stuff to make the jump to an ecotec. my 1641 is just not enough motor and I knew it wouldn't be but was hoping to be able to milk it for awhile but the lack of power is killing me. It has been a busy year went to parker and pitted with my a friends TT. Then we went up to the mint to check everything out. I also picked up a class 5 chassis in January.
Got some new wheels and tires for the rear.

Lost the set screw on the shit linkage driving across town. Glad I was near a buddies house. What a pain in the butt to replace. Normally I pull the passenger seat which makes it easier to get to. if I pulled the fuel cell it would make life a ton easier but the cell is not easy to get in and out.

Your car is coming along real nice.

What did you pick up in the way of a Class 5 chassis? Pictures?

The car looks great! I like the way you mounted the two spare tires coming out of the rear window... Haha!

The ecotec will be a great addition to the car, not sure where you are planning to mount the radiator but I wouldn't put it where ours is. It is very susceptible to debris and doesn't cool as well as it should. I would put it up near the rear window. Moving ours is on the to do list.

Keep up the updates!

Thanks it has been a lot of work and still have a lot to still do on it. I'll post some pictures of the new car up in a few.

Those spare tires were sore for a week after that along with my shoulder from resting on the trans keeping me from going all the way down. I was like that for over an hour fitting that stupid set screw. I could barely get my fingers on it let alone get a tool in there to tighten it.

Your car looks good. I was originally planning on hanging the radiator in the same place you have yours when I started building it. I think I have enough room just inside the rear window behind the cage. I need to take some measurements and see what I can do. down low wont work with all the bushes on our trails. first time out I would shove a creosote branch right through it. I can't wait to get the new motor in an actually get to push the car to its limits.

Interesting.
Who built it?
Has it been raced?
If so, by whom?

The research I have done and people I have talked to all points to putting the radiator right where the one in you class 5 car is... as close to what would be the torsion tube as possible. That is supposed to be safest and smoothest riding place for a radiator to live.

Our location works until you start getting rough with the car,.. It was explained to me that where it sits in your 5 car is like holding it in your hands and shaking it as hard as you can vs putting it on the end of a 8' stick, lifting it above your head and smacking it to the ground!

It makes sense to me and after one broken and one leaking aluminum radiator, I ether have to be "nice" to the car or move it. It's going to get moved to the rear window area!

It was built by Scott from SKM. he built the car back in 2013 and raced it 7 times I believe. last being rage at the river in vegas in 2015.

ya makes sense. I did some measurements last night. I'm going to locate it just inside the rear window. I don't think I can have the room behind my seats to go that far forward. it should work nicely just inside the window.

Fits in the car nice. When I build the engine cage I designed it for this motor. The 1600 just looked out of place. there was a ton of extra room.

Nice job on the install! It looks like it is safe and out of harms way. Are you planning to do some ducting to channel air to it?

Thanks. I'm going to see how it runs. I would like to find some scoops for the rear windows to help direct the air in which will also help once I mount my oil cooler. the rear of the car is very open so there is already a lot of air flow.

Everything is looking very clean. I like the way you mounted the motor from the top of your cage with the heim joints. That is a change we are planning to make when we replace the 002 with an 091.

This may be a funny question but... Have you tried to take your drain plug out? At our first oil change we were enlightened to the fact that the plug was about a 1/4 inch too long and could not be completely removed. Rolling Eyes

Do you plan to race the 5 car and what is your time frame? I have a Buddy that is currently rebuilding a Subi powered 5 car and is looking to race it a few times in 2017.

Thank you. Ya I have plenty of clearance on the sides. I wish I had more clearance between the bottom of the oil pan and the top of the skid plate. I need to make a custom pan that holds another quart of oil that is about a .25-.5 inches shallower.
My goal is to hit a race in or by 2018. Have a lot of parts to collect between now and then. This car is not helping the progress of the 5 car. Building two cars at a time is a bad idea on top of building a house. Once we get past the move I will start on the new car.
