Well. I didn’t make it to woodburn this year. Pretty bummed. But there is next year.
For anyone in the PNW there is a show/swap in springfield Oregon on Father’s Day. I’m trying to get the news out as much as possible. It used to be good and decent sized and I would like to see it that way again. Been going to it since I can remember. All free. Pm me if you need details.

yeah, i've been a slacker on the forums. need to get back to posting things i've done. I go to that show every year.. I want to show it, but seems like i run out of time with everything, especially being the weekend after memorial.... I might try this year though...

just letting you know, if you are interested in showing off your baja to a huge bug crowd there is the Bug In put on by the rose city volksters at the woodburn dragstrip on june 2nd. looks like you havnt posted on here in a long time. but thought id shoot it out there.

too many beers since our last conversation.... lol. I've been seeing a lot of 3 ribs for sale lately. I just don't know if i want to deal with the conversion. more work... but then again, more gears and torque when i need it.
I think i would like to get 3x3's when/if i do that, but then i need to invest in thicker torsion bars and better shocks, also would want to widen the front and maybe go a little longer arms there.
$$$$$$$$$ Shocked $$$$$$$$$$
I really need my sugar mama!!! Maybe i can sell one of my children? haha

I may have to invest in a stock 8 dowel flywheel then. Does it make that much of a difference?
I have a SACO degree sand seal pulley with chromoly hub on there now. it has a little weight to it.

I think u have forgotten details from our conversation last year. A three rib will be perfect but you don't want to use a 1968 Bus Three rib (a one year only trans that was as week as a big trans). This can easily be determined by looking, if is has 6 acorn nuts around the CV flange, it's a 68 only. The three rib works great w/taller tires. It's what Ken @ GTA has built for both of my bajas & works great w/my 2275 or previously 1835. 2nd gear is the main gear, 1st acts like a granny gear in old pickup & 3on the flats. 4th is hwy gear.

Stock flywheel give you more bottem end torque & momentum: both needed for off roading. Lightened flywheels are great for street bugs but not as great w/heavier Bajas & tall tires. My 2275 has a stock heavy flywheel plus a heavy degree pulley which acts like a tractor motor w/a lot of torque (more torque better for off road than HPower unless u got A LOT of it!).

why keep a stock weight flywheel? I thought the 3 rib was the worst of the bus trannys?? or am i thinking of something else??

Right on! Glad to hear the fresh 1835 is working good! The next step will be a good 3rib bus trans: stronger & better gearing. If/when u do the next engine build, i'd suggest keeping the stock weight flywheel vs the lightened now on it. We all need a "sugar momma" to support us but we'll have to build'em one piece at a time. its just an 1835. My first ever complete engine build. I figured if it doesn't grenade, then i will look into building a stroked motor down the road.
Its got a WEBCAM 218, Full Flow, machine in sand seal, lightened flywheel, DRD heads 40x35.5 dual spring with 1.1:1 rockers, dual 36 DRLA, .009 dizzy. I have a SVDA electronic ignition Dizzy i'm going to put on there to see if it helps off the line.
and yes still running a freeway flyer LOL. Engine seemed to do pretty good. I was able to run her up to 6K when needed without any problems.
Hopefully i will be driving her to rose burg sooner than later and i will be able to tell how she does compared to my old tired 1835.

I need a sugar mama to help me to afford everything i need for this car. Or to build my 69 into a wanna be race car. LOL

I decided to tear into it and do some todos I've been meaning to get to. I'm rebuilding the front end king n link pins and m going to cut and turn the front end some more. I have adjusters but maxed out she still sits a little low.

Also would be nice to find some kind of snorkel system that would work well with duals.

You might pull the torsion packs and see if any are broken. In looking at your front end pics, it appears the adjusters are set at the right posistion for max lift: meaning welded into the correct position.

As for carb hats: CB sells full hats for use w/blow thru turbo or relocating fresh are intakes to higher positions.

I'd be concerned w/connecting the fuel pump to shut off w/oil pressure sender. there's a lot of fuel left in the float bowl that will allow the engine to keep running long enuf to cause internal damage, even if the pump is shut off when oil light goes on.

I think your torquey 1835 will be good. Keep a stock weight flywheel, not a lightened one and get a heavy front pulley. Give a lot of bottom end "grunt". Running both these on my 2275 and really makes a difference to the torque. # one thing most people do is Over carb and over cam. Keep it simple and you'll have a lot of fun!

Glad to hear the "boat cover" worked well!
Sounds like that "new" trans was built for a street car. The super diff will hold up and it was a single side plate, late mod. trans, so in theory it's a 3:88 R&P: strongest factory R&P and 1st gear but 2nd, - 4th are way to tall gears for tall tires and 4th is fine toothed and weakest of all (not that you'll be abusing it in 4th...).

Ha Ha, my 49th is in March. We can both celebrate our BDays on the dunes! Sorry, not giving you the GTA built trans as a gift. You might keep your eyes on CL or here for a deal on a 3rib BUT I'd not pay more than couple hundred bucks for an old used one. The thing about used engines and trannies is you never know what you're getting, whether it be good or broken, what they say is in it vs. what actually is there when you crack it open or plug it in to try it. I've been burned MANY times over the years on both engine and trans but those people that sold me junk also never show their faces and car events...Chicken $hits! There are trustworthy people out there but think of how you drive you car, others may have done even worse torture to the parts your buying. I may not sell the trans we talked about as I've got a lot into it w/the Wedle gears, super diff and GTA build - It's an expensive paper weight but also nice back up piece of mind! I have a lead on a fresh GTA rebuild that I'll look into and follow up on asap. I don't think it has a super diff nor aftermarket gears but you could have a diff installed and have a killer trans from the get go...
