Looks like rears for splits are available, easy mod for use on 60 and earlier. Maybe they will skip the light pressing and offer them cheaper

I asked Gerson at Prado about the fenders and he said they will make more. He said they got a lot of orders to fill and are re doing some of the dies. But they will be available again. Just didnt know when.

The website used to say out of stock but now the product is not even available. I don't see Gerson fenders coming back anytime soon. Too bad too because I wanted a set.

What's up guys Dave here in Cali, do any of you know how to tell if fenders are real German OG fenders or some kind of repro's, like Brazilian, italian, mexican, what ever. if you are looking at a set that some dude is selling and he says they are real just to sell them but you have nothing to compare them with at the moment, how can you be sure they are? do any of you know the actual thickness of German metal?

Here are some pics of OG fenders.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=448426

No repro pics but they are NOTICEABLY lighter. The closest to original weight I found were 80s italian fenders. Still lighter than OG but heavier than brazilian.

Like bruce said, the horn hole is a dead give away to an aftermarket fender. Its hard to notice the difference unless you have one original and one repro on a car, then its evident.

You have to study the shape. Compare cars at the shows. Look for lack of symmetry. A big one is the position of the horn grille on early fenders.
