You can get LED bulbs, just not sure if they make them in 6 volts. _________________ Glenn

Where can you get them? I've tried Mid America, Airhead, Wolfsburg and a couple others. Can't find them. Have a link?
Thanks

You wanting a whole unit? or just the bulbs?
There are a couple of whole unit set-ups in the classified here, they are 12v though, and honestly don't look very bright to me in the pictures.

If you just want the bulbs, most auto parts stores have them, assuming you have converted to 12v. If you are still 6v, probably not gonna find them in stores easily. _________________ Eric - 1966 camper bus

That's where I got mine. No need for a "unit". Just buy the bulbs.
From someone who has gone this route, be prepared to spend $200 to convert your brake/running lights, front turns and rear turns over to LED bulbs. It's wise to get an LED flasher relay as well.
You need to use the 45 LED bulbs for the rear to be bright enough during daytime use. At $25 a pop, it gets pricey quickly. _________________ '63 slow n low build thread...

Thanks to all of you that replied. I have some research to do. I need to look into the LED compatible relay. Didn't even think about that. The superbrightlight website had both 6volt and 12 volt replacements. I need the 6. I have emailed them. We will see what they say. Thanks again to all. I'll be reading for hours it looks like by the forum link! LOL |

the tail lights are double and this one is single pole. Wont work for the 65 tail lights. It's got to be a replacement style for a 1157 |

I know you can pick up led 1157 bulbs at the parts house here and and truck stops since they have started to convert over. If you need 6v then you could try Ron Francis. They are price but may be able to find them cheaper somewhere else.

BTW I have converted my 65 over and you may need to run a load res if you have problems with them flashing to fast. |

Thanks Reedwesd those were a bit pricey and I've already ordered some from another site. I'll see how they look and someone else had sent a link from past forum posts on this subject and that was very informative. I will post the results of my experiments one way or the other. |

I don't have much to tell. I ordered the incorrect lights and the new tail light assemblies I ordered to remedy the corrosion would not fit even though I ordered the right year make and model. Just some bad luck. I ended up just polishing the existing assemblies and made sure all contacts were bright and shiny and we've just been doing fine with those. I looked at the lights you posted about and they look good. If you buy them and use them let me know how they work. I am selling my house and retiring so all projects are on hold until I get to my next house and get a garage set up. I'll try something then guaranteed. Sorry I was no help just yet.

Ouch, those kits are expensive. And even worse - they effectively convert the rear lights to "one bulb" operation - and for someone like myself who has Euro style tail light lenses, that is not an option. I would like to know how well they look and work for someone with stock USA-spec all-red taillight lenses.
I'd rather put in matching-color LED bulbs myself, if I was going to LEDs.

And judging by the videos... they look like ....
Id like to witness those in person, to see if they acaually illuminate the entire lens, or are typical LED directional as the video appears.. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Agreed, Andy. I've seen demos of that Technostalgia set up with US spec lenses I concluded it was a half-assed attempt and a shoddy result. About all it has going for it is the rapid pulse, but so what?
United Pacific began producing exactly what you and I would love to see, individual areas devoted to each bulb represented but, so far as I'm aware they only make one for the late model Bug.
Until someone makes something quality and worth the investment, I'll stick to seperate LEDs. I have a car-wide set on its way in the mail as we speak. _________________ -Tim

Behind a lens they are exactly what you'd expect . I only provided that link because options were asked for, not as an endorsement. _________________ -Tim
