I've bought Chips lights for the my 58 bug to fit inside my snowflakes. They have stop/tail and indicators in one unit and are really clear. I got the correct relays from him too. Easy to install and look great. I got the indicator led's in yellow so they are nearer UK spec as most other drivers here don't know what a semaphore is!

if you search LED tail light in the 58-67 forum, it will keep you reading for a while..

Chip made a set for my 61...Great Job...and he is super cool guy. They had to be sanded down a little on the side....maybe I can get you a pic of them later tonight.

VS

Chip has great high quality tail lights. Very low current for such bright tail lights.

Never seen his light in person but from my interactions with Chip he is a pretty good guy. IMO people don't reach out and interact with others in forums like this if they are at all afraid their product isn't top notch. Endorsing Chip - I will be buying his lights after I get a couple other things that are higher priority sorted.

Thanks. There are a lot of LED bulbs out there. Lots of them have mixed reviews. I guess you need to just try them out.

My car has been converted to 12v. I was referring to the turn signal. I also think the LED bulbs are a good upgrade.

Id like to witness those in person, to see if they acaually illuminate the entire lens, or are typical LED directional as the video appears..
Behind a lens they are exactly what you'd expect Sick . I only provided that link because options were asked for, not as an endorsement.

I'd rather put in matching-color LED bulbs myself, if I was going to LEDs.

Agreed, Andy. I've seen demos of that Technostalgia set up with US spec lenses I concluded it was a half-assed attempt and a shoddy result. About all it has going for it is the rapid pulse, but so what?

United Pacific began producing exactly what you and I would love to see, individual areas devoted to each bulb represented but, so far as I'm aware they only make one for the late model Bug.

Until someone makes something quality and worth the investment, I'll stick to seperate LEDs. I have a car-wide set on its way in the mail as we speak.

I don't have much to tell. I ordered the incorrect lights and the new tail light assemblies I ordered to remedy the corrosion would not fit even though I ordered the right year make and model. Just some bad luck. I ended up just polishing the existing assemblies and made sure all contacts were bright and shiny and we've just been doing fine with those. I looked at the lights you posted about and they look good. If you buy them and use them let me know how they work. I am selling my house and retiring so all projects are on hold until I get to my next house and get a garage set up. I'll try something then guaranteed. Sorry I was no help just yet.

Thanks Reedwesd those were a bit pricey and I've already ordered some from another site. I'll see how they look and someone else had sent a link from past forum posts on this subject and that was very informative. I will post the results of my experiments one way or the other.

I know you can pick up led 1157 bulbs at the parts house here and and truck stops since they have started to convert over. If you need 6v then you could try Ron Francis. They are price but may be able to find them cheaper somewhere else.
http://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LR%2D67

BTW I have converted my 65 over and you may need to run a load res if you have problems with them flashing to fast.

the tail lights are double and this one is single pole. Wont work for the 65 tail lights. It's got to be a replacement style for a 1157

Too bad those seem to be fairly weak LEDs. (16/3 lumen for the red one.)

Here's another one I came across - they don't give any intensity specs though.
