The vehicle is in exceptionally good original condition, it has not been restored to date but has been lovingly preserved. It is virtually rust-free and has only been welded in one very small area. The paintwork is approx. 85% original, the engine is that one with which the bus was delivered in 1970 (matching number, confirmed by the VW certificate).
History
The vehicle rolled off the production line at the VW plant in Hanover at the end of April 1970, received its camping equipment at Westfalia in Rheda-Wiedenbrück and was then delivered to Borgo San Dalmazzo in Italy. To this day, the clear lenses of the front indicators and the small side indicators on the B-pillars bear witness to the bus's special Italian equipment.
The first owner only parted with his camper after 36 years and sold it to England in 2006. In April 2008, the vehicle then became the cover star of the monthly UK magazine "Volks World Camper & Bus" (the corresponding issue of the magazine is available). The second owner sold the bus to a classic car dealer in the Netherlands in 2018.
We discovered it there in November 2020 in his showroom - it was love at first sight!
After a thorough overhaul of the vehicle technology, we took the camper on some unforgettable camping trips, and this reliable vehicle has never let us down.
Condition
The body and chassis are virtually rust-free, but naturally show some patina typical of their age. Around 85% of the excellently preserved paintwork is still the original paint from 1970.
The camping equipment is also in very good and absolutely authentic condition; we had all the foam parts and the covers of the folding bench and the single seat behind the driver's seat replaced by company Reprowesty in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2021. The seat covers match the color and design of the original Westfalia and are visually indistinguishable from it. All cupboard elements and the sink are original from 1970.
The vehicle's technology has been consistently overhauled over the last three years. A number of components have been overhauled or completely renewed, including the steering gear, brake system, tires, battery, engine and gearbox suspensions, intake manifold, clutch, three-phase alternator, starter motor, fuel tank, sensor for fuel gauge and fuel gauge, auxiliary heating.
Accessories
The following accessories are currently installed: headlights H4 Bosch, dimmable interior mirror, VDO Kienzle clock, radio Blaupunkt "Karlsruhe", Hirschmann antenna, magnetic odometer, lockable fuel filler cap, bamboo shelf, Dometic compressor refrigerator, second battery for parking heater and refrigerator, cigarette lighter with 2 x USB
A smartphone, MP3 player or other mobile device can be connected to the radio using the existing adapter, allowing you to decide which program you want to listen to.
In summary, it can be said that this VW camper van is in excellent original condition, almost every detail is right here. It has not been restored to death like so many other cars, but has a wonderful patina. The vehicle is suitable for everyday use and exudes the charm of the late 1960s. The camper is an absolute eye-catcher in every respect; it would be very difficult to find a comparable vehicle.
