I just joined this forum, and i like it alot. Here is some pics of my first Beetle. It is a 1967 with a 1600cc engine. Only mods to my knowledge is a Headre with Empi Stinger exhaust. So let me know what you think.

That was before I cleaned up the engine. Someone told me to fill those wholes in the bay..... Something about recirculating hot air. How should I do that?

That was just a photoshop of my VW Golf Wheels on the bug. Thought it looked pretty cool.

So Please tell me what you think. Any questions or advice, id love to hear it. Thanks for your time.

Nice looking! I like the color. Replace the heater tubes that go on each side of the engine (look at pictures of other engines on this site). Have lived in NC and you can use a heater in the Winter.

I like the chrome wheels on your car. Don't replace them with the other ugly wheels you have shown.

Looks like you are missing intake pre-heat. You will never run well in cool weather without it.

The fresh air hoses and pre heat are not there due to the header swap.

The hot air under the engine comes up through those holes, into the engine compartment, and raises the operating temperature of your engine. The fix is to buy a new tin without holes, or if you're feeling ghetto, cut some peices of tin (wood if you're curious about engine fires) and attach using sheet metal srews with some silicone sandwiched inbetween. A new tin is the better choice.

Since you don't have a stock air cleaner, you should block off the hole on the lower right side, near the lower crank pulley, that hole is for the preheat hose that runs to the aircleaner on a stock setup,I used the top of a paint can,it fits just right, mine is glued in with RTV silicone sealer. You would be much better off with a stock oilbath aircleaner with a preheat hose, but you would have to convert back to that and get rid of the chrome aircleaner. The other two holes you have are where you need to replace your fresh air hoses that come out of the fan shroud and connect up under the back of your engine to the heater boxes. Without these, you won't have any heat in your car,and your going to fry your engine in warm weather, need to keep your engine bay cool and the hoses need to be there, they don't cost much. There is also a set of rubber seals that go around the lower tin that the fresh air hoses run though, this will also help keep hot air out of your engine bay. Get a hold of a cip1.com catalog, you will find just about everything for bugs in this catalog.Hope this helps.By the way, nice looking car, keep the stock wheels, they look great!

Ottobahn, he no longer has heater boxes.
The PO appears to have cut off the pre heat pipe to the manifold also.

your distributer is sitting sideways, a lot of people will argue it doesn't matter but I've experimented with that & i believe it does. Rotate your distributer 90 clockwise & then reset your timing i think you'll find it runs better & is a bit easier to start.

i forgot to say, also reconfigure your plug wires accordingly after the distributer is rotated.

Thanks for all the advice. That goes for everyone. And Someone asked the color, I have no idea the code or anything. But i love the color myself. This Forum is great. I have gotten more reponses and help then any where else in just one day. Thanks again.
