A wrecked 1959 Karmann Ghia Cabriolet in "Stop me before I kill!". This 1960 British movie* opens with the Ghia already smashed against an Austin truck- we don't see the accident happen.

The driver (played by Welsh actor Ronald Lewis, though we don't see his face in this scene) suffers head injuries from contacting the steering wheel and the windshield. Looks like the steering wheel right rim cracked and the upper portion bent forwards from the head impace. Radio speaker in the glovebox door Confused .

The newly married wife (played by Australian Diane Cilento) is found on the street. As she slowly gets up and goes back to the Ghia, and as help starts to arrive, we see how strongly the frontal impact was.

Note that the windshield seal is missing and the glass is loosely in the opening. Also that the cabrio top's metal frame is painted a light color, possibly the same as the body color.

IMCDB lists the Ghia as a '59.

*Original British title is "The Full Treatment".

Shall I post a screen shot of your sighting, despite the low quality video?

The same black/black '66 and its owner is in 'Feuerreiter 4, at about 2:00. Then, a Type 3 Ghia much later on! Very Happy

I have many Ghia sightings from TV shows, but this particular thread emphasizes those from movies. I'll slip in a TV sighting in a post among a few movie sightings...

Here you go, Udo. Program was from 1979; full name was PS Geschichten- Die Feuerreiter (translates "Horsepower stories- the fire riders"). The man at right is positioning a long wire thru the passenger window top gap to hook onto the driver's door inner handle, pulls it, and opens the car. Would the color be Black, or the very dark Roulette Green? DA license plate is for the city district of Darmstadt, slightly south of Frankfurt. Long thin decal on the left side of the engine lid is a souvenir decal from the popular North Sea vacation island Sylt located near the Germany-Denmark border.

The same Ghia and its driver appear in the subsequent program episode #4.

From 2006:

There were some Ghias in the background driving shots in The Love Bug, along with a nice tanish/yellow one sitting at the finish line of Herbie's first race. You gotta be quick to notice that one, I believe you can also spot it on the viewmaster slides too.

Here's that Ghia behind the flag man at the Jackrabbit Springs race (was the Willow Springs race track north of Lancaster, California):
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The VW logo sign on the far left is probably the only time the logo was ever seen in the movie, as Herbie the Love Bug had its emblem either removed or covered over. Ghia appears to be L87 Pearl White, and would be from a '60 thru early '64 before the transition to the plastic cone-style blinker lens midway thru the '64 model year which was amber colored. Silver-blue blur is a Corvette Stingray roadster, and the red blur at far right is a Devin.

There's a series running now on NETFLIX starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (with his back to camera in this scene) called FUBAR. My wife spotted this Ghia convertible in episode 4.

Saw part of this film the other night, and there were actually four Ghias in this one sequence. Three can be seen in the photo...all lowlights, so relatively new at the time. There was one more, a blue lowlight 'vert, that runs up on the sidewalk in front of a VW/Porsche dealership just before the scene pictured.
