So Registration is open for the greatest Vanagon event in the states. Hosted as always in Hollister.
I don't know if there is a cut off for Vans or a cut off date, Costs are reasonable at $110,00 for 4 days and a meal or two.
So make your plans and bring your kids and even your spouse, I plan my my year around it and so should you.

I truly miss all the drama and shouting associated with the rivalry between this event and Syncro de Mayo. That was a top tier shitfest. Ah, the good ol days.

Eric
Always a great show, good to see you and Jill. The place was packed and Sat's rain added to the excitement of the event.
Not a whole lot of Carnage, a certain Titian red van did roll over and played dead.
This year brought a ton of Single and double cabs as well as quite a few freshly painted vans.
That Van place in Los Osos introduce their new 15" and 16" OE style Carat wheels but had none for sale.
That place in Washington gave away one of their Tacoma grills at the raffle along with the all the lights.
Quite a few swappers and some deals to be had, I brought out my new Vapor barriers and my pockets and and sold quite a few sets.
Quite a few "Non German" vehicles were left in the main area which is generally a No No.
A great show and the first Sheila to win Syncro cup was nice, her name will look good right near my name on the coveted trophy.
Mark your calendars for next years event, we're planning our trip to Syncro Solstice in 3 weeks.

I was there a month ago. oh well, I took my Jeep, had fun. Did some system checkouts since I had done a new radiator and tranny cooler install. Needed to do a test run the week before a longer Nevada off road trip. Nice place Hollister is. We used to do Clear Creek down that way, but the nannies closed it, said there was to much asbestos in the dust, that place rocked, offroading, shooting, lot of fun. I had my Bug out there a lot.
I have wheeled my 2wd van a bit in Death Valley, got it into some far out rugged places, where only other vehicles with 4wd ventured. But then got the Jeep for the more rugged trails to keep up with my buds. The van sure was co fortable to camp in, just a tin top, but total luxury compared to the jeep, an old XJ that has been highly modified, frame siffeners, Ford nine inch, Atlas Xfer case, manual hubs, 33x12.5 tires, winch, locker, compressor, etc... Good news is I still have my Van, and it is still a blast for camping that is not a pile of boulders to get there.
Which trails did you all with 2wd vans take in Hollister? How'd it work out? last year ago the hill climb was wiped out, three foot deep ruts, but this last time it was ok. Was any 2 wd Van able to do that? If so what tires, lift, diffs did you all use? Me, well my van has street tires, but a little larger than stock, and gas assist shots, so it has slightly enhanced clearance. Id not be able to do that hill climb in my Van, but just wonder if any 2wd Van did make it, and with what modifications? _________________ Give peace a chance. No American war with Russia! |

I decided on a whim to take the trek out to Syncrofest as I was tired of winter.
What a great event! I got to meet some people I only knew from the Samba, Sodo, Alika,Unibagel, Burley, etc. Also got to see others I have met previously like Stacy(16CVs).
I didn't do any trails as I was surrounded by other vans and the Saturday rain turned it into a mudfest.
All in all a worthwhile trip. Looking forward to seeing friends at Syncro Solstice
Decided to take my time going home since it has returned to winter with a foot of snow at my house.
