I'm working on a 1972 Ghia and noticed on the windshield lip there is a perforated lip on-top of the lip for lack of a better description. It's about 3/4 the height on both sides and partially along the bottom of the opening as well.
My question is does this need to be removed? I saw a video (jbugs) and he removed them but havent been able to find a definitive answer through a forum search (might be searching the wrong terms)

My seal is from airhead parts, T channel trim with molded corners (Part 143-845-121)

That is for better headliner and gasket retention as I understand it.
I’ve read about people removing it and I’ve seen it recommended to do so for no other reason to make the windshield installation easier.
So I suppose it’s not really necessary but I left mine intact for originality’s sake.
