I feel like I'm procrastinating on the interior, but the sand etched glass (from being parked near the ocean for so long)needed to get polished out and I wanted to see the car with the trim put back on it.

So today was about appearance rather than function.

It's about to be the holiday so I'll get back on this pretty soon.

Next update should be a video of it doing a four wheel tire spinning drift Wink

Grabbed a few hours of work and drove it out of the garage.

It's crazy cool.

There will be a full video on the channel in a few days. Driver position and legroom is perfect. Subaru seats bolt right to the floor, the rockers weld together almost perfectly. (lots of that left to do)

Usually it's below freezing on Christmas, but today it's almost 60deg!
After breakfast and presents- my son and I stepped outside to film a couple things.

It's not done and it's really not "safe" yet haha but guess what? It GOES!

Drives amazingly well. New video on the channel coming soon.

Interior update Smile
It took a bit of work, but I was able to tuck the dash cluster from the Subaru in the 411 dash. All the heat & AC stuff still functions, so it's staying.

I will obviously pack all the wire harnesses back up under the dash. I'm also building a console to house the shifter & e brake along with the heater controls. It'll all get covered in black carpet and the floor will most likely be black vinyl/rubber.

Lots of welding yet to finish.

The Subaru firewall and the VW firewall matched up pretty good. I've got them together and seam sealed. I also use Dyna Mat or Kilmat to insulate sound, although the induction sound was pretty cool.

Thanks for checking it out, should be finished in another couple weeks. Smile

More as it happens.

Thanks !
I really should be laying on the ground welding the outsides of the rockers and fabbing up the inner fenderwells but I had something that seemed like a better idea.

I hung out with my 87yr old car guy buddy (I turbo swapped his 91 MR2 several years ago, he drives an hour just to hang out and hand me stuff, hold the light etc) and we were discussing flex and rigidity so I figured- why not?

These are fairly expensive, so I just made one. It certainly won't hurt..
Something told me the car would like a bit more strength. Smile

I finished the strut brace, sprayed it with whatever I had in the cabinet.

It's cool and for this level of build, it functions. I also finished welding & seam sealing the engine bay. I'll get a cheap cold air intake tube and filter later. This is basically how it's going to be.

If anyone wants to change it, come on over and have at it. I also sprayed the bare metal with whatever I had in the cabinet. Plenty good enough.

Lots to do under the car and in the rear arches, but it's moving right along.

Thanks for checking it out.

What's left to do on it?

1. Rear wheel wells, inside & out.
2. Build center console, rear deck and carpet.
3. Wire up the lighting permanently.

That's about it. We'll put some cameras on it and do some 4 wheel drifts in the snow, because that is on the way! More as it happens.
Thanks for checking it out!

I've been buzzing this little thing around and it's really a cool little wagon. It gets crazy looks from people. I have yet to finish the interior, I've been crazy busy. The real goal was to "See if I could do it".
Since I proved that I can in fact, build it- I've decided it is going to find a new owner, eventually. I'll update the thread with interior pics, we're hoping to get that done next week.

I have a giant stack of gauges from all types of different vehicles that have been through here. 1950's through the 90's. I might make a display out of all of them, or just put 'em in the attic for the next generation.
Couldn't bring myself to throw 'em away.

I've got all the lights working from the column controls. Running lights, headlights, brights, park lamps, turn signals and brake lights.

I've also created a spare tire storage slot, in the rear deck which covers all the steel structure tubing. It'll have a parcel tray and get covered in all weather carpet later.

I have the center console built and it'll have 2 cup holders, a 12v power port and the factory controls from the Subaru. Heat, AC, defrost & vent.

I'll post pics of the interior when it's done. It's fairly cold outside, so I have not cut the front grill openings yet, it runs cool on the road.

Very fun little car! I'd say it's not "fast" but it will go plenty good. Feels solid and it's fairly quiet.

The 411 has a distinctive front end. I would not cut grills. I would put scoops under the bumper like they did for air conditioning. Cool!
