This is not a criticism of this specific car, it's a general comment. One of the things I have noticed about so many of the VW based kit cars over the years is that they look so sweet and sleek from every angle except... the rear. It's almost as if the designers exhausted all their styling ideas by the time they got to the last bit and said "Screw it!" and got out the chain saw!
This car looks so awesome until... how would I fix that? I'm not sure but something needs to be a bit rounder back there... the rest is so sexy!
Maybe it's just personal taste. Great job on the car! _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

And that there is my next problem/project.
The tail end is completely not made/done.
The radiator and grill is what it is going to be, but the fiberglass is a big "don't know".
I have mocked up stuff with cardboard a few times and nothing has been "it". Everything that has come out of the head has been to "flat", not curvy enough.
So something is gonna happen...... just don't know what.
I have had several co-workers say to stay "chainsaw" flat, because many many of the race cars of the era I am trying to emulate are flat, many with holes cut in them. But I want something else. _________________

Maybe something similar to the F40 with a mesh opening, floating tail lights and license plate, and integrated exhaust openings.

The Corvettes had similar lines and some nice looking rear views too. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. (The mass media age) |

Well then examples have a lot of flat going on....... does make me feel better about some of my cardboard mock ups from before.
I really wanna round out the edges like a lola.

I'm not sure about the bottom profile. On the upper half it looks like you could cut off the existing squared off upper outside corners and reform that part to a curve much like the body shape in front of the rear wheel opening. That would start it toward a more curved profile. _________________

There is a reason that is the last major part..... no good ideas of what to do. I can get there if I can decide on a direction.
I think I understand what you are rounding off.
I really have not thought much about that line on the upper side.
What I have had the head on is the sides rounding into the back panel. I did start cutting bucks. Started with the radiator surround and that mid body line. Working toward rounding that vertical corner making it less of a cut off with chainsaw look.
I do know it will have some flats to it, the radiator is flat and the licence plate is flat..... and I just figured the top rear fender line would fit into that somehow. But not much planned on any of it. Just starting somewhere and figuring it out as I go.
Wish I had more of a plan (or even a vision) of what to do (engineer type guy). I had more idea to go on with the rest of the hacked up body. _________________

I took your last uploaded image showing the current back and edited it, drawing and oval around one area and adding a pointer to another, to help explain what occurred to me. I though it not really appropriate for me to upload the image to theSamba into my gallery, but I don't see a way to send this little 120k image to you. If you PM your email address to me I could send it over to you.
It isn't rounding around into the back panel, instead rounding the side to the top of the body behind the rear tires, to make it more like the body just in front of the rear tires. That may make further rounding into the rear panel easier. _________________

And the last of the mounting hardware came in the mail box this evening.

Curving inward from the sides and from the bottom up to the top edge like the Lola looks even better than the late model vette style bumper. Slimmer and goes better with your other body mods _________________ Pres. Rivercity VW Club www.rcvwclub.org

Still working on ideas, have had some good input.
Some thought are coming together and it ain't looking simple to do.
Some of the older pics , full on rear (and old ideas).
the aluminum is the radiator cover, the radiator is not going anywhere, so that rectangle is there whether it has the aluminum cover or a mesh cover it will be shaped like that.
The spare tire is over the radiator.
The exhaust is each side of the spare over the radiator.
The white is covering the spare. It is the only place large enough to fit the licence plate.
I have bus tail lights that might get mounted sideways.
The round holes are whatever was in it before.
