Been doing the VW scene for 40 years and suddenly realize how confused about this subject I’ve been. Seems like sometimes through the years we called some a VW Bus. And some a VW van? And I truthfully don’t know why?
I usually lean more toward bus, but which is correct? God forbid I accidentally use the wrong terminology in the wrong crowd!

Personally I have always called splitties and bay windows buses, and everything that came after Vans. I have nothing to chase this on to be honest. Just what I have done |

Van as in cargo van also VW calls them a Panel van, also calls them a truck. VW also calls them a delivery van.
Bus as in people carrier, also VW calls them a station wagon, also called a truck. VW also calls them a Micro Bus.

This, in a nutshell.
When it really comes down to it, you can call it either and most folks won't care. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Unless you call it a "Hippie Van". _________________ Glenn

Not according to VW's own words:
Van as in cargo van also VW calls them a Panel van, also calls them a truck. VW also calls them a delivery van.
Bus as in people carrier, also VW calls them a station wagon, also called a truck. VW also calls them a Micro Bus.
And then you have VW's term for combining the van with a station wagon or bus. It's called a KOMBI or in English COMBI or; "combination" station wagon / bus which turns into a van when you remove the passenger seats. |

It's "bus" solely so I can pretentiously correct anyone who calls it a "van". _________________ Copyright CJ Industries, Inc.

From what I have gathered on this site. Helfen is the guy with enough first hand knowledge that if you want the official answer (which I am not sure if it actually cleared the air or not, lol) go with what he says. I will still call splitties a bus. They imo, were the first minivan( iacocca eat your heart out), so I suppose that is right too? |

We don’t care what you call our EuroBusses. We have our windows up with our AC on.
Call your ride whatever you like. Calling out what someone else’s ride “ should be” makes you a (corrected to) Richard. _________________ .ssS!
