My 73 Westy w 1.8 Porsche engine; I'm finally finishing the rebuild. Bought Remy 13030 from Rock auto. They claim its redesigned to be lighter in weight & fuel efficient. Trouble is, this one is made for an external regulator & mine came with a built in reg. Would like to use the newly rebuilt Remy. Any advice re is it a good idea to do this....also how. I would have to rewire and get a new external regulator. My orig Bosche, made in Germany has over 100k miles on it. The point in my purchase was to avoid a replacement once the engine is in the van.... |

Welcome, you'll have to post some pictures of this, the Bosch alternator on the 1.8 type 4 VW engine (often mistakenly called a Porsche) is already externally regulated. The only built in regulators are found on type 1 engines, unless your alternator has already been swapped for something entirely different.
Here's how to post pics: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6 _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Just now noticed your response. My ignorance was cleared up by a helpful guy at Rotex where they did a nice of rebuilding my starter.
Thanks for the advice on how to post photos, too
