Hello everybody,
I am playing to install a porsche fan in my engine, so i need an external oil cooler. Is the best way to install it in the full flow circuit or is it better to install the adapter on the original oil cooler spot and run the lines from there? If installed in the full flow circuit what do i do with the original filter oil holes? |

This is how it is working for me , has a mechanical termostat that helps the oil getting to the proper temp , then it has a electrical thermostat that starts the oil cooler fan , the oil cooler is at a side of the trans ( i have a swingaxle )

The above picture is great. I would put the fan switch after the cooler though. _________________ Wash your hands

because the cooler already cools the oil even when the fan is off. _________________ It's just advice, do whatever you want with it!

Dang it...
Did not think of that.
Have mine pre-cooler also.
Easy enough to move as I am still.assembling.
But I can see how that would give a better result.
I had mine in the sump and have recently moved it to the filter pump cover.

I would either do like the pic shows , or like the pic shows in addition to that one add another at the oe cooler location.. if needed. I dont like that type of cooler, they dont pass much air through them and the air is what removes the heat. but what ever you do be sure you do not add any restriction to the oil flow. use big hose/oil line min #8. and all fittings need to have a min of .375(10mm) inside dia. and any sharp corners need to be removed from the inside of the fittings just like porting a cylinder head for more better flow the fittings need the same done to them.Ive pulled fittings off engines that had less than a .250 dia passage. thats a engine killer....and that new engine had about 800 miles with dead bearings and much more(bernie bergerman 2386 engine with that porch typ fan) and be sure to install the tstat properly. as for the switch.....unless your cooler is out in the breezzee I doubt it makes much differance.I would rather the coller get the fan turned on befor the oil comming out of it is already too hot and has to over come the added heat sent back to the engine. thats my thoughts and Im stuck to them. |

I too run a switch for fan, toggle next to guage, also 175* thermostat so oil only goes to six cooler when hot, I hit the fan at about 215, running a thing. Pushing a brick builds heat |
