Is there any chance that the barn doors from a splitty would fit on my 79 bay? Just curious. I'd love to have a set instead of the slider

Those are not barn doors, those are cargo doors and no they won't work on a Bay Window without major modifications, and it'll look like shit when it's done.

Don't sugarcoat it Brian...tell him what you think. Very Happy

But he is right.....It would be a huge big deal to do and would still look bad when you are finished.

not knowing what the original poster has in mind, and not exactly cargo doors, plural...... you could always point him towards the link in your signature about non sliding rear door....

Seems fairly obvious what he has in mind.

Barn door.^^^^^

You wanna put split cargo doors on? Go for it. If you get it done, weather it be well done or not it will end up here.

Hell, there's even some guy across the pond building a complete split from a Bay. It's your bus, your time, your money.

There were some factory Buses done with the double cargo doors. I believe there was also a run of them in Brazil in the late 70s in the era of the bizarre 'Brazilian bastard' bus. However, you'll want to go to Brazil to get parts. Very Happy

To the OP. Go for it, post your results here should you decide to go for it. Not all of us here (myself) dislike or continue to criticize your vision. I say go for it, post up here. Not all who are members here share the same view. First and foremost it's your Bus... So take that and do what you want with it. Just like the world functioning... It takes all kinds of people and buses to make Samba what it is.

Some interesting vendors here: http://www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/BR/vw.html that supply Brazilian parts worldwide. They even have turnkey engines listed in some ads. Maybe you can somehow get Brazilian cargo doors sent up here? Can't we just import them piece by piece? Laughing

Barn door.^^^^^
Yep, Barn door ^^^^

Check out the Samba Dictionary for Barndoor http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/dic/b.php

Barndoor: Any Bus produced through February, 1955. The term Barndoor is credited to Jeff Walters and is in reference to the large decklid found on those vehicles. Barndoor Type 2's can also be recognized by the lack of an overhead fresh air vent over the windshield, 16 inch rims, the lack of full dash on non-deluxe models, non-opening rear window hatch (a few exceptions); not to mention miscellaneous switches, latches, seats and body panels that are unique to the Barndoor bus and no other. The term is often mistakenly used to refer to the 2 cargo doors on the side of a Bus.
