Wanted to clean out the nozzles after the ultrasonic bath. So I rigged up a adapter and applied 20psi air pressure, than activated with the 9v battery. Worked great and also showed zero leak down. I'm very pleased. Thanks for the tip on the ultrasonic cleaner tram.

Thanks guys! I still need to address the conditions of the AAR, the fuel pump dampner, fuel pressure regulator, head temp sensor, and the pressure switch under the RH intake runner. Than get all new hoses.. Gas tank goes out today to get chemically dipped to remove the rust. _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

More cleaned parts, fresh out of the sonic cleaner.. I really like this cleaner for the money. I don't have to scrub.. I wish I had taken before pics to show how nasty the sender was after sitting in rotten fuel for 20+ years. After cleaning I tested it with my ohm meter, and it works through the whole scale so that's good news. My gas tank is due back from it acid bath on Monday.. I went out today to my friends at pacific rubber and purchased all new fuel hose, breather, and vacuum hoses.. Getting closer..

Received the gas tank back from the dip shop, sure turned out nice and clean(pics to come).. Getting closer. The goal is to try and make it to the Northwest bug run @ Woodburn, but not sure if I can make it.. Even if I do get it running, I still need to go through the entire brake system.. But having a goal is good _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

Since I have the gas tank out, figured it was a great time to access the brake master cyl. Started taking it apart for inspection. hoping to just be able to clean it up and re-assemble....... Yeah, no such luck found one seal pretty mangled. So now I'm trying to find a new master cyl. Ordered one from local parts house. It looks a little different in the pics online, but Hoping that it will work..

Very quick update. Today's progress during my lunch hour, was installing fuses into the empty fuse block, connected the broken separated wire from the positive battery cable to the voltage regulator, installed new tail lamp lenses, and installed battery.. Than very cautiously since we don't have any background on why things are the way they are on this car I attached cables to the battery..... And surprisingly, no sparks or wires frying... All seems good. We have lights, turn signals, gauge indicators, and than I ran out of time and had to return to work.. More to come.. getting closer... thanks guys _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

Slow progress, but still moving forward. Yesterday during my lunch hour I picked up new O'rings from Christopher Seals here in Eugene for my fuel pump and the MPS. Initially I was just gonna run the old OG ones, but the more I thought about it and the luck I have, they would leak and now is the perfect time to change them out. I did get myself confused on the fuel pump mid plate "clocking" position I forgot to mark the location when I took it apart(bad me). But thanks to Mike Fisher and Jim Adney they both got me back on track.. thanks guys!
Moved on to cleaning the AAR and temp sensor. Again the HF sonic cleaner came in very handing and took out the scrub work. Should have bought one of these years ago..

So I was looking through my Bentley manual last night see whats left of my fuel system work and I got the cold start system components section.. Well I don't have any of these items..Nor do I see any of the electrical connectors for these items. Is it possible my car did not come equipped with cold start since it came from dessert climate? How well will the car operate in the Oregon weather without these?

I don't see it on my '69. You're welcome to stop by & inspect mine in person if it might help you? Mine does have a later model air cleaner on it because Tram thought it was in was prettier than my '69 air cleaner.

The cold start system was optional the first couple of years, so yes, it's entirely possible your car didn't come with it. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |
