Indeed. My dad and I got the car with the intent of him driving it when it's done. We're going to get him out to a skidpad to do some real driver's training above and beyond what he would get in regular driver's education. They don't adequately prepare you for the challenges involved in a rear-engined rear wheel drive vehicle, so before he gets the keys he will have to prove that he's going to be responsible enough and have sufficient training in wet weather, skid recovery, etc.

That's cool, I guess being so involved in getting the car on the road will mean he's invested in it too, best of luck with it!

UPDATE.
Been tinkering here and there and removing filler and doing metalwork. This is the biggest undertaking thus far. The nose was beyond saving, so I found a donor and purchased it. Here is the genesis of that project:

The post-cut massacre.

It fits. Still have some fine-tuning to make it fit tight and some metal work to do before it gets stitched in, but it was a damn sight easier than trying to rework that metal.

Good call. The nose on my '68 had been spliced in at some point, with the weld seams currently the culprit for some rot and piled on bondo. I hope to keep the nose but patch the repairs.

My dad and I restored a '64 Beetle a few years back, its awesome to see these father son projects.
