Does anyone know if I can replace a solid lifter head on an 84 scirocco 1.8L with a Hydraulic cam follower head from an 8 valve head from an A2 Jetta (Late 80'S)?
I have an under powered 1.7 L '81 Jetta engine (EN) in my 83 Caddy that I want to replace with something that won't put my life in danger every time I try to pass an 18 wheeler. I have a hopped up 84 Scirocco engine (JH) and several 8 valve Jetta engines, including one from a Carat that will fit the truck. the caddy is now powered by CIS Basic, which I feel is easiest to stick with. The Scirocco engine has a lumpy cam and matching valve spring revisions designed for motocrossing; I don't think I want to run it on the street or listen to it idle?? Any thots would be welcome.
Would the head off the 1.7 work on the 1.8 Scirocco? |

The 1.7 head won't easilt fit the 1.8 block due to the oil return galleys, they don't match. And to make a 1.8 head fit a 1.7 block (easier than the first scenario) just requires blocking one return and resizing another. And any 1.8 head will fit any 1.8 or 2.0 block.
CIS doesn't like lumpy cams at idle to low RPM's, after that it'll do just fine. |
