I had a Pontiac Astre, a rebadged Vega with the Iron Duke engine that was later used in the Fiero. Sharp looking little car, like a scaled-down Firebird. The Holley carburetor was a nightmare, so wrapped in smog junk that getting it all working correctly was darned near impossible. The thing pinged incessantly and I literally tried to kill it, but it just kept on running. I sold it in the late '80s, still with perfect paint and no rust.

I kind of wish I had it now, with a small block transplant!

Couldn't keep tires / oil on / in it but, hey it got good gas mileage!

Sure wish I had the black Vega GT now-a-days, it'd have a 350 transplant!

Remember when.. diesels were mostly exempt from emissions..

Ahh the good ole days...

Best $600 bucks I've spent

1981 Isuzu P'Up.... with the mighty diesel engine..
Still gets 38-40 mpg.. and will run on just about any base oil petroleum I drop in the tank. Yeah sure.. it may smoke a little.. Wink

I call it the rolling recycling center...

I run the shit out of it.. while my Pop puts along and can squeeze it to 46 + Mpg
Doesn't use a drop of crankcase oil either.. and no cat piss DEF.. Mad

Pretty good for 70's oil burnin' low tech..

Too bad its going to rot out before it wears out...
Im looking for a donor truck to receive the organ transplant now..

Remember when you could take the kids to the gun range without people eyeballing you? I guess it doesn't help that the range is in the same building as a nightclub.

I remember duck and cover in case they dropped the A bomb. Once a month at noon sirens would go off all over the city and you would dive under your school desk and cover your head.

Seems like a bad idea since the toilet seat might crack

Remember when every little town had a radio shack? I'm not even sure where the nearest store is anymore.

There is one in my "little" town.
It seems like they just sell phones and headphones and other stuff you can get elsewhere.
I've only been in this one once but I walk by it a lot.
I went there once to buy an actual electronic component and they didn't carry it or seem to carry any sort of good selection any more.

Yes, even before our local shack closed several years ago, it became more of a phone and gadget store than an electronics supply store. I suppose they were attempting to change to fit the times.

He said it was a "rebadged" Vega. Iron Duke is obviously appropriate for Pontiacs.

I am pretty sure that Chevrolet went to the cast iron block (aka "Iron Duke") after they finally gave up on the aluminum one.
