I use an old Garmin that I’ve had for years, with unlimited free map updates, it tells my speed, address I’m headed to, miles to destination and arrival time.
Trying to get this info on my IPhone but old habits are hard to break.
If I had appleplay & nav like my modern car it would be easier. |

HAHAHA! Believe it or not, that's how i got rid of my glasses. Doctor recommended to safely focus on the farthest thing I could focus on on the road, and focus on my speedo. Over and over, it worked! _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

I don't have any apps, but I have a cable-controlled magnetic pickup wheel installed in my dashboard that, when coupled with a coil spring and gear drive box, track both my speed and distance traveled. Pretty neat stuff!

Most accurate speedo I have ever checked. Most are 2 to 3 mph off at 55. My 13 cc was 3 off my 17 Passat is 2 off. I think in the day they trusted you to drive the speed limit. Now it's like they try to fool you your going faster. |

I use a digital speedometer/odometer since my Bus's speedometer is broken (I'll fix it one day!) and my bug's speedometer is off by 2-ish mph and sometimes bounces around wildly.
I use DigiHUD since it was the first free option I saw when looking around, but I now use the paid version (a one time payment of $1.49 on the play store) since it's way more customizable and lets me edit odometer and trip miles to whatever I want which is handy in case I miss a few miles somewhere.
DigiHUD also lets you make "profiles" for multiple cars. You can customize just about everything on the screen and choose to display only the info you want for a less cluttered screen. I recommend looking it up, I love it!
I promise I wasn't paid to say these things!
Examples of my 2 profiles:

An iPhone or Samsung works fine. They are pretty darn accurate. Many in racing use them with some sort of app to log data.
As for accuracy, it's amazing how good GPS is. I've been using it in racing since 2006. Then can compare GPS speed vs the wheel speed. Within a few tenths.
Wayze has the speed right there on their app. Plus, if you sign up, you can see where all of the cops are, as speeding in a bus is really common and easy. They are overpowered beasts. You can also change the vehicle you are driving (which shows up on the app) to a bus. I think the app is free too. Then you can just use a suction cup mount on the windscreen.
Top it off, if you buy a radio that can hook up to the phone via bluetooth or WiFi, you can make calls and then talk to the ships computer. Things like, "Computer, how fast am I going?" Then it'll answer, "Way too fast as you are driving a bus." |
