I have a dual circuit brake servo fitted to my 67 EZ camper, it sits in the engine bay just about where the spare wheel well would be on a walk thru. CSP disks on the front and Im sure the master cylinder is the same as used on a Bay window- I'd need to check on that. Brakes are very good. |

The vacuum works from the inlet manifold the similar to a bay window. The servo requires nothing extra to make it work. Its activated as soon as you apply pressure to the brake pedal. Two brake pipes from the master cylinder go to the servo (dual system) and two pipes exit the servo one to the front and one to rear brakes.
I can only assume that once the braking system is pressurised by the brake pedal there is a valve within the servo that enables it to start working. It has transformed the brakes on my camper.
Do a google search for VW Jim aircooled, based in the UK. Thats where I bought the unit, his website has all the details and he is very helpful |

FWIW, a booster was an option before 1971. A friend had a 70 with a number of options, including the brake booster. It was M-coded for it. The booster was disconnected, and the bus had shit brakes. I re-connected it. lol
No help here on fitting one to your split though. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
