We don't even put murderers away for 10 years anymore. Who was the injured/murdered party in this case? A few bruised egos at best. Come on man get a grip! Car companies have been lying to the public since the begining of the automobile! The whole fiasco was 100% politically driven. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. The injured parties were the public by increased emissions, and the competitors who lost sales by playing by the rule of law.
Madoff got a life sentence for stealing $1B and this crime was the same order of magnitude _________________ .ssS! |

Maybe not an exact analogy, but certainly not false. The EPA is a large bloated government agency. They need to justify their existence. The mileage estimates have been a huge joke in the industry since their inception. I mean look, it's as simple as having them try to force EVs down everyones throats and yet at the same time falsely inflating MPG claims of the average car. There's no logic to it at all. |

You've been around long enough... you must have sat in traffic on the Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel, no? Or on the Corkscrew, the ramp where I-87 climbs up to the GW?
There is only so clean you can make something with a carbon- dater (carburetor). That's not considering Drogin's worn out city busses waiting to pass through the toll booths.
Do they still have toll booths?
Or the straight shot outta the Holland tunnel and over Newark's Ironbound District? It used to have a particular smell to it, that and the Secaucus dump.
Or Pittsburgh before we outsourced manufacturing.
And so on.
When is "clean" clean enough?
I believe we were clean enough before penalizing diesels or more foolishness such as EPA compliant lawn mowers. Diesel passenger cars were never more than a minority. It's simple, the majority causes the majority of emissions. Other than a momentary toot of smoke from VWs "cheater" engine controls, TDis are enviably efficient.
If we want to improve our aggregate fleet fuel economy, efficient diesels are part of the solution not part of the problem.
Sometimes the answers lie in ideas that have already been discarded for one reason or another. That's why they call it "research".

^^^This!^^^
One thing that warrants exploration in my opinion is dual fuel. Diesel and propane or natural gas. Feed a small amount of propane or natural gas into a diesel engine. The result would be that it would run mostly on the chosen gas under light loads and diesel would be added for hard acceleration, heavy loads and high speed sustained driving.
A good friend of mine had his diesel Chevy pickup set up that way back in the mid 1980's. He loved it. He told me that with a good tail wind on the highway it ran mostly on just the propane and used very little diesel. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit.
