Here is the story of the oval window. Bug Doctor Don and I met in 1990 at his shop and yard in Laramie Wyoming. This oval window along with many other great VW's were in his yard. I bought a few VW's from Don over the years like a 58 Double Cab, 59 Bug, 63 Bug and sold them all to the VW community. I knew about the oval still being there and brought my friend Tom up to check it out 6 years ago. He bought it and brought it to Denver where it has been in suspended animation till last week when I bought it from Tom as a homage to Bug Doctor Don. Tom was super cool and sold it to me for what he had invested and towed it over to my garage! Thanks buddy! Check out Tom's blog on the samba called Things to do in Denver.

That's pretty impressive seeing the original paint under there and still looking like it can be buffed and waxed. You also have to wonder WTF the PO was thinking when he cut that radio hole in the glove box door and bent the shifter like that! He needs to be tracked down and kicked in the nuggets! Fortunately both parts are bolt on so it's easily corrected. Looks like a pretty straight car and a nice starting point. I'm glad you saved it and hope you update as it progresses. Congratulations on the new project. |

I don't know about Wyoming dirt but Oregon dirt is pretty good at preserving original paint. _________________ -Greg |

Surprisingly the dirt did a good job preserving the undercarriage. It was baked on like a undercoating. Plenty of OG paint still there. Thanks for checking it out! _________________ 56 Oval

It's been awhile since I last posted about the oval. A lot has taken place. My wife and I moved to North Carolina with 4 VW's. The oval, 65 deluxe bus, 67 Kombi and our 2012 Jetta. I stabbed a 40 hp engine I had laying in the garage in the oval for the cross country trip. Got the brakes working for the trip and here we are in North Carolina. Just started working on it lately and here is the current status.

Thanks Tom! Yea I am really lucky. 2 garages and a carport. All the dubs are inside. All my bare metal stuff I've had for years in CO rusted in a matter of days out here. Yikes! _________________ 56 Oval
