Alright I thought I should share my pics of my 1969 dual sliding door panel van project. The pics are from when I first bought the car and the rest of photos are of where the bus is up to now.

Ok so as you can see the bus was pulled down and sent off to the diamond blasters and sprayed in 2pac Primer. As you can tell there was a lot of rust in the old girl and it's had a bit of a beating in a few areas. The belly pans were perfect though with not even a pin hole of rust.

Ok so after a bit of rust work taking place I had to start thinking of what I wanted the bus to look like as the finished project that's when i made a call to my good mate Wayne from WPDI to do up an illustration for me of the finished product that we could work towards. Wayne has been a huge part of turning this car from a visual dream into reality

Ok so we mocked up the rims however the castle nut was to big so we got them machined down as you will see in the pics. As the corners had a hit once a long time ago thanks to a mate he sourced me some nice solid oh rear metal to weld into the bus.

the sliding door was in need of some much deserved attention and was sent to a mate to roll and fab me up a new bottom section of the door and fusion weld it back together.

Ok so the bus will be running some 2.5" tubs. The tubs had to be re cut again and fab'd so that the bottom sits nice and square on the floor, the lower section also needed to be sectioned to hug the radius nicely and the top leading edge cut to sit up against the panel divider. Next on the cards for the tubs is to fabricate and weld in the box section underneath the tubs to add strength and ensure that they are rigid. Mock up up the seat rails and seat belt mounts etc.

So now that the tubs have been tweaked it was time to get some support frames made up before welding them back in as I don't won't any flex in the tub and the tyre to go through my ass

Ok counts hold on to your hats and cocks the booster seats are now all welded in and not coming out
So now that i can see over the steering wheel Wayne had to cut and modify the seat so that my feet can touch the floor. In all honesty they need to be modified so they can sit flush on the tubs.

A bit more progress on the seats over the weekend with the passenger side seat modified and the drivers seat rails welded in a ready to role

Hey, nice build. Excellent body work. And I'm digging the low rider look people are doing with the bays now. Sure way I had double sliding doors. I've just got the one on my 7 passenger. |
