Ok, we've had a small setback. Got a crew of folks over to lift the body off the chassis and the back side would not budge. Checked the bolts 3 times, still.......no joy. So I jacked the back end up by the body and took a screw driver to all the seams. Well wouldn't you know it, the PO actually welded the body to the chassis!
So now I have to take a cutting wheel to a 6" section on each side to get them separated. SMH |

Oh man that sucks, but I have seen that before.my guess is the captured nuts striped or came loose last time someone worked on it.
Gotta shake your head at what people will do to cars sometimes. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

It was pretty tough to get the bolts out, but I will check out the capture nuts when I get it apart. One side cut through......going to work on the other tonight. |

Un-!@#$ing believable. He welded the whole drivers side.......what a pain in the ass. 4 hours of cutting and prying and I finally got it. |

this is the previous owner who bondo'ed the entire car, hacked the dash apart and installed coil over shocks and its a surprise they welded the pans on?
That ghia looked so innocent before, its hard to believe the mischief that went on before you came into the picture. Good Luck! |
Lol,. ok, ok.......I guess I should have expected that. The Ghia will be great once more - I just need to get going on it! |

Update - I finally got the body separated from the pan, but not without casualties. Hoping to get the body transferred to the dolly within the next couple of days. More pics to follow soon. |

Ok, been a while. I've managed to cut out the old pans, remove the transmission, take the front beam apart and do a lot of wire brushing. I just coated the front portion in Chassis Saver and will be working on the tunnel tomorrow.

Congrats on the progress. Your pan looks almost identical to mine at the moment. I too have taken everything off the pan except for the rear suspension. If I can't connect with a local Smaba member who offered the use of his torque-buddy I will have to get creative with the rear drum removal. Any tips? I ask BC the usual "put the car on the ground and chock the wheels" Etc. is out the window for both of us at this point. _________________

OP: Are you able to perform the welding yourself, to fit the new pans to the frame? Make sure the seat rails are positioned correctly and welded on thoroughly!
Were the heater channels on the body in bad shape, for the body to be welded to the pan?
Wow- what a project your Ghia turned out to be. Keep at it! |

For a driver, I would have left the paint as it was, but by the looks of it you're going for a full body-off resto.
Good luck, I'm sure it will be beautiful when done!! _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank

Fiz - I am actually going to try to just use the e-brake to hold them in place, but if that doesn't work I'm going to have to put the wheels back on and try to get the nuts loose. I would recommend that you don't use anything smaller than a 3/4" drive socket.........I bought a torque wrench from HF and twisted the drive nub right off of it!! lol |

Get a 4 ft. piece of angle steel. Drill two hole that match the the drum pattern and bolt it on. Instant drum lock. On the other side of the steel piece, Drill two holes that match the flywheel, for when the times comes to remove the gland nut. |

Getting more done on the chassis. Flipped it over and got a lot of the old grime off the bottom. Waiting for the Master Series silver primer and bedliner to get here and will get the bottom done.
