Hello everyone, My name is Steve and I am living in New Jersey. Been lurking around the site for a while, but never posted. Thought I would finally say hello and post a few pictures of my current project. Its a 66 Bug I bought about a year ago. I have stripped everything out except for the suspension, so it can roll around and then had it sandblasted. I get it back from Paint this weekend, so I thought I would post a few pics of the progress. Enjoy. By the way, the car was initially red when I bought it and I never meant to go to this extent with the car, but after closer observation, the car had around 4-5 layers of paint and it showed.

Thanks everyone and sorry for just now replying, but it has been a busy summer and Ive got caught up. The motor that was in the car is a 1641 pictured in the older red color photo, however I really want the Powerhaus Turbo motor http://shop.powerhausvwparts.com/2332cc-Turbo-Fuel-Injection-Turnkey-2332TKTFI.htm

The color is, believe it or not, something I picked from a color chart. I like the color and Im sure it will look good, but I kick myself for not doing something brighter! The color has a pearl in it and metallic, so it definitely color shifts depending on the light.

Since this post, I have the car home and had my widened 7in and 5.5in smoothies painted the same color as the car. I threw them up to see what they would look like and put on the hubcaps.

Then, I decided to finally order my suspension, brakes and a shifter. I have gone with the Airkewld products:
-4in narrowed air ride beam including disc brakes all the way around
-Rear Air ride with 4 way air management
-Black Mamba shifter

So, since I knew I was getting the air ride and I had read that its much easier to install with the body off, I decided to take the body off (scary project doing this alone!)

So now that the body is off and I am pretty much replacing everything on the chassis, I have decided to go the whole 9 and sandblast the chassis and have it painted or powder coated.

So this is pretty much where I stand until I get the chassis dismantled and send it off, hopefully I can get it back before the Airkewld parts get here.

Anyway, Thanks for reading!

Yea, your right and I am waaaay to deep into this car at the moment, however I cant stop now. The funny part is, this was meant to be and probably still will be an everyday driver, minus bad weather conditions Smile

Hello,

Its been a while since i posted any pictures of the progress on the bug. The chassis has been a work in progress over the last 9 months. Waiting on parts and finding time to work on it.

Anyway. Here are a few updates. Chassis is almost complete! I still have to get the shifter greased and installed, finish the brakes, including the emergency brake and install the new pedal assembly when it arrives, and then hopefully the body can go back on.

All parts have been replaced with new/refurbished, including all bushings, cables and most of the bolts

Chassis with the Air bag brackets and air bags installed (mocked up)

Thanks EMPIImp69. Yes, you are pretty close. You ever go to the Somerville car shows? I have seen a few bugs there.

I had a company in Hibernia do the sandblasting and a company in Bethlehem, PA do the body work and paint. To be honest, I was not happy with either one of them. I spent way too much money on both and I don't believe I ended up with a great product, to the point that I have almost considered taking the car to someone else to have it repainted again.

Yeah I've been to the Somerville Main St shows a few times, lots of nice rides there. Did you go to the Flanders VW show this yr? That sucks about you not being satisfied with their work. Looks great from the pics though.

Yea, it happens. I blame myself, as I should have taken my time to research these places better. There are a few areas where I believe they took shortcuts. I'm sure when the car is all back together, I wont be worrying about it too much.

I did go to the Flanders show. It was great. I posted some pics in the car show gallery forum.

Are you driving your bug, or are you still working on it?

Yea Flanders is a great show, no my car won't be road worthy for a while. Still need an engine and body and paint work.

Looking awesome, can't wait to see pics of it finished.

The paint job looks awesome in the pics. Curious as to what the cosmetic issues are with the new paint job. Runs? Dirt under the paint? Fish eyes?

Thanks VWNut1. A little of all except the fish eyes. I also wonder how well everything was primed. That's my biggest worry.
