Tuesday, 26 July 2016-
Only one weld left at the front of the pan where it attaches to the outrigger on the Napoleon hat. Did that, vacuumed out the debris from welding. Gave it a good wipe down with acetone and removed the decals and residue. Sanded it all down lightly and hit the entire driver's side with some self etching primer. This was allowed to dry and then hit with grey primer in a much heavier coat. Tomorrow I'll hit the bottom of the pan with the same treatment and then apply some body sealer along the seams. So far, I'm pleased with the progress.
Kind of like the gray look
It'll all be black once the suspension parts are removed

Sunday Aug 7th. Before I get ready for work, a few chores to do. With the help of my daughter, we rolled the chassis up on end. While I supported it she grabbed a 4x4 and put under the tire. The jack point is in the way of it sitting completely upright now.
So she steadied it whilst I wire wheeled the bottom seam. I shot the seam with more primer and silver paint. As soon as it dries, in about 30 minutes in this oven called Georgia, I'll tape it and run seam sealer along the bottom seam.

Haha, I didn't realize that was you when I saw the thread on the '60 ragtop. I dragged Jeff to Montgomery to a VW show a couple of weeks ago and he was this close to buying a '70 project car! |
Yea, turns out it's a '59 rag. There's a '60 vert and '66 hard top that came with it. We are going to start taking the '59 rag a part in the next few weeks.
Tell Jeff I will sell him the '66 hard top project _________________ 1961 SWR Kombi |

Can you share what place in Germany you got this seat cloth from?
Thanks,

I ordered the original material for the seats from Germany and received it yesterday. Let the flow of cash begin!
So, that'll get tucked away for now and I'll get the seats pulled and start blasting the frames and fixing any issues with them. I'll be ordering the coconut fiber, and jute material as well as picking up some burlap for the seat padding. I'm told there is an upholsterer in the county here who is VW savvy and who has done many show cars over the years.
Once she has the seat frames and material, I'll separate body from pan and finish up the body repairs. Once I'm satisfied with repairs I'll send the body out for paint. There's a shop in Macon that does very good work on older cars.
It will be pan time while that's going on. But I need to fabricate a couple of dollies in the meantime. More to follow... |

What type of coating is on the garage floor in the last picture?
Thanks,

The 6' pieces go across and atop the 24" pieces. Next up the L brackets and flat plates.
Then the casters. Four pilot holes drilled for each caster and attached with two inch lag bolts.
And the finished product
