The rear parcel shelf should be covered in leatherette colour not headliner material. _________________ Cheers,

If your after 100 point restoration, i never claimed to be doing that. Just look at the motor and disc conversion. I also spent time making the A and C pillar sculpted so I didn't have to cover them with headliner material as it came from the factory because I never liked that look. That said I can still cover it with matching vinyl that is going on the seats if I'm so inclined in the future, but wanted the parcel shelf to wrap under the rubber for now-seat vinyl gets pretty thick for that |

been a while since i posted, and i can finally say i am making progrees, as in ive driven the car. only small details left (like finding some wiper arms, horn etc)
anyway, continued with the interior. who ever butchered/recovered these seat before should be slapped
they were a total mess and so much carpet padding shoved in there it wasnt funny. no way this pattern could be used. not to mention the multiple families of mice that made a home in here over the years. i was fully suited up for this deconstruction process
bare frames--not TO bad
while they were at the blasters i took the time to get all the window trim and pop outs installed. i better use these MOFO's since that was such a PITA
sand blasted
painted in the pearl white roof color
laying down carpet and insulation on the floor
amazing how much just a carpet kit can change things up and get you inspired again
then there is a the back seat--also a travesty
i started to sew the back seat first since i have no patterns to go from. back seat is an easy box. cutting fabric. chose tan vinyl and tan hounds tooth inserts

coming together
my wife was working on her own sewing project in our sweat shop. shop dog supervising
finished back seat
time to start the daunting task of the front seats. covering them in burlap i had laying around before the new foam goes down. notice the front seats are asymetrical. makes it a lot harder
since i have someone elses butcher job, i started form scratch making the pattern. didnt want to waste good fabric doing it, so did a test sew in some cheap vinyl i had. glad i did, changed my pattern a little bit--nip and tuck
the real sew--my work horse machine (also german)
im real pleased with the results

and final product--with final wheels and tires. just details to wrap up now like i said. just in time for winter and with life changes--may have to send her along
I finally built the dream Ghia i have wanted since i was 16 yrs old (30 yrs ago) yes--even at 16 i was dreaming of a pan off resto on a ghia. THIS IS my vision from way back when
couple days after i drove her to the local cars and coffee event. she was probably one of the biggest hits there--sorrounded by Ferraris and lambo's. sometimes its the simple thingss that draw the crowd
now after an upcoming move i can start the 49 moto guzzi astore project that has been waiting for me to finish this one, i have a rule of 1 project at a time |

thanks for the positive feedback. i do upholstery as one of the things i do, self employed workaholic as a graphic designer, motorcycle mechanic, overland vehicle builder and upholster. this is my first ghia interior though. i usually do moto seats and since ive owned a lot of vanagon syncros--kind of got hooked up with that community and done a few syncro interiors.
sadly now that i have finished my dream car ive wanted forever, my wife took a new job out of the country and i will be moving eventually. i am gonna have to sell it in the near future. not until i get some enjoyment out of it though. timeing is 100% wrong on this |
