In a recent issue of PC Magazine I read that hackers are writing Active-X programs that can run on your PC from a web site and hijack your modem so it can be used to make long distance phone calls while you are connected. It recommended that you either stop Active-X programs from running, or that you set the preferences so that these programs have to ask your permission to run.
I did the latter, and when I change locations on thesamba it always asks me if I want to let an Active-X program run. Now, given that Active-X is Microsoft's answer to Java, there are lots of legitimate reasons that such a program might want to run on a website. Do you know what is the Active-X program that tries to run when I move around on thesamba?
By the way, when I deny permission for the program to run, I can't tell that there is any difference in the way thesamba runs. |

If you turn that off, it will prompt you every time a banner that is written in "Flash" tries to display. Flash is considered a "plug-in" which you are telling IE to prompt you for.
If you say no, the banner will not display.
Active-X programs are only installed if you agree to install them. You shouldn't install anything where you don't know the author. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Active-X program that hurt your machine without you approving the install first.
Flash is ok. _________________ How to Post Photos
