I just had a blowout yesterday and I need new tires. Quick and dirty here...what are the biggest tires I can put on my stock, original 1984 Westfalia?

Same Size Sumitomo as yours, by "standard" I just meant ubiquitous since gowesty pushes them and they seem to be the default option for majority of owners

Just an fyi about referencing tire diameter to the tire size designations for larger tires.

27" Tire Diameter
155/90R16 = 27X6.1R16
195/75R16 = 27.5x7.7R16
205/70R16 = 27.3x8.1R16
215/65R16 = 27x8.5R16
215/70R16 = 27.9x8.5R16
225/65R16 = 27.5x8.9R16
235/60R16 = 27.1x9.3R16
295/50R16 = 27.6x11.6R16
355/40R16 = 27.2X14R16

28" Tire Diameter
195/80R16 = 28.3x7.7R16
205/80R16 = 28.9x8.1R16
215/75R16 = 28.7x8.5R16
225/70R16 = 28.4x8.9R16
235/65R16 = 28x9.3R16
255/60R16 = 28x10R16
28X11.5R16

29" Tire Diameter
225/75R16 = 29.3x8.9R16
235/70R16 = 29x9.3R16
235/75R16 = 29.9x9.3R16
245/70R16 = 29.5x9.7R16
255/65R16 = 29.1x10R16
275/60R16 = 29X10.8R16
285/60R16 = 29.5X11.2R16

30" Tire Diameter
215/85R16 = 30.4x8.5R16
235/80R16 = 30.8x9.3R16
245/75R16 = 30.5x9.7R16
255/70R16 = 30.1x10R16
265/70R16 = 30.6x10.4R16
30X11.5R16

31" Tire Diameter
225/85R16 = 31.1X8.9R16
235/85R16 = 31.7x9.3R16
265/75R16 = 31.6x10.4R16
275/70R16 = 31.2x10.8R16
285/70R16 = 31.7x11.2R16
31X10.5R16
31X11R16
31X11.5R16
31X12.5R16

Anyone tried the Nokian cLines yet?

https://www.tiresbyweb.com/p-12148-nokian-cline-van-tires.aspx

Looks like a decent street tire with appropriate load range for my 15" wheels. Bit spendy, but about the same as my previous Nokian WRC tires which I really liked but are out of production.

Been looking at those, and I think I might be trying them.
A little bit cheaper with free shipping at tires easy.

Hi all, new here an did a search but couldn't find anything on Toyo Open Country AT2.
My new to me 84 Westy has a 1.5 suspension lift and EJ22 Subie power plant.
Will 215/75/R15 Open Country AT2 fit on my rig in it's current state or do I need spacers?

Thanks

Dear Experts,

I just scored 5 15x6.5 et37 after scouring the interwebs...

Now for tires, I want to get the proper load rating for my EJ22 84 Full Westy.

I dont see much in here for the 6.5 rim width, does anyone have any suggestions for eastern Canada?

Does a 6.5 and a 7 inch wide tire require different tires or are they interchangeable?

A 6.5" rim is fine for any tire that will work on a vanagon, it is the width of the tire, 195, 205 or 215 that determines how wide a rim you need and those sizes are all fine on a 6.5 or 7.0 rim. One tire you would probably really like is the Nokian WR3G in either a 205/65-15 or 205/70-15.

I am looking to upgrade from my stock 14s to something bigger. I have an '82 diesel westy stock engine with roof rack and yakima box. I really like the ko2 and that is most likely what I will go with, but mountain driving in the winter in the pnw are snow tires worth it on a westy. Also 15 or 16 inch rims. I may be able to pick up a set of 15 inch rims from my mechanic for 60 bucks I would just need to get the center bored to fit my hub diameter. Are 16 inch rims really worth it or am I better off with a bigger sidewall? I plan on winter driving and getting as crazy as a 2wd westy will allow on dirt, gravel, and fire roads. Thanks for your help

I have the KO2s, and like them, but it is my understanding that they are no longer being made.
When researching snow tires here on TheSamba the other day, I came across recommendations for the Vredestein Comtrac. The 195R14 or 185R14 both look like they could be what you're looking for.
Good luck!
James

I looked at GoWesty and they sell a 16" wheel with a ET23 in matt black that i like. Will these both fit my 1991 Westy with no issues? spacers etc..

http://www.gowesty.com/product-details.php?id=3289

I found these at the Tire Rack and they look identical and I think they would work with no spacers also.

Can anyone help ? I just bought my Westy 2 days ago I am a newbie but super stoked Smile
