When folks get quotes near 10k for a good repaint these days, I get it. |
When I did my bus sand blasting was $2.5k, paint and materials were $7-8k. It was probably close to $15k when all said and done. That was replacing a rear corner, battery tray, pulling out some dents and fixing other small issues. Also includes sand blasting the interior, exterior, and undercarriage. Painting the whole vehicle is crazy expensive if you want quality. I did lots of the dirty work myself saving money and letting a pro do the metal work and paint.
I don't think I would ever go to that level of repair again. Now I am afraid to get rock chips, scratches, or dings. My defensive driving skills are on high alert when cruising around. _________________ 1974 Riviera - Subaru EJ22

Man I’m so so jealous!
I want to get my bus blasted and painted as I can see it starting to waste away.
Great job and your hard work really paid off! _________________ 77 westy 2.0 FI

Thanks for the comments guys. Soon be time to store it again for the winter. Here's to hoping next season will be more normal.
Here is another rolling shot and it is one of my favorites and was before I did the engine swap or redid the bus for the second time. Got to be about 10-12 years ago. The old 1700 cc with dual webers was pushing along in this one on the way back from a show in Niagara.

Hey Sloride,
First just want to say that you’ve done an excellent job on your conversion 👍
Second I’m doing the same on my 76 Camper and your post has been a great help. My question is - how have you hooked up the coolant recovery tank since the heater hoses have been deleted? Do you have any pictures?
Thanks

Thanks Sloride for the reply and yes got it figured out and running thanks to your thread!
Another question, I’ve installed the Vanagon fuel pump also and was wondering if you have had any issues with fuel starvation? I noticed the main pump on the mk2 is 85-96 psi with around 9 gph and the Vanagon is around 43 psi with 37 gph.
