Happened to find this thread via a Google search -- I recently acquired a Porsche 356 that has this same radio in it!

I imagine it must have broken a long time ago since a blanking plate had been placed over it in the dashboard.

Thanks for the detailed restoration pictures! I don't know anything about radios but I have a friend who does and am going to see if he can take a look at it.

My 8M didn't have the nice little faceplate with it shown in this beautiful restoration and I couldn't find one for sale online. So I ended up making one. It's not perfect, but I think it's better than the bare cuts in the dash.
