I like the blue and white with silver as well; looks modern and classic at the same time to me for some reason. I went though my washer system as well, replacing the hoses and connectors. All was well, except that the nozzle would not stop dribbling. I reversed the in and out lines on the dash switch thinking that it would work better in one direction than the other, but it still leaked. I guess the valve in the switch is just worn out...

Now you have me worried Paul, as after a few squirts the nozzles started leaking, It was OK at first, so I thought it may be the drop in pressure in the tank against the valve. Do you have your regulator fitted to the spare tyre?, I was hoping after I track one down this would fix the leaking issue |

Yes, I have the regulator in place and it works properly. I can empty the pressure in the tank and the tire still has 26lbs of pressure in it. I pumped it up to 40lbs and the problem persisted. I attributed it to the rubber inside the valve being worn out or age cracked.

Thanks Laurence,
Hi Sasha, yes there has been progress but its been slow, Ive just been too busy getting inspiration from other peoples posts to have time to update my own. You’ll have to start up a post for yours& I need more motivation
These photos are what I have been up to for the last 9 month, jeez has it been that long
I finally managed to get the headlights in and started to put the interior in
Started with the carpet in the front
Then moved onto the rear seat.
The original ply was starting to delaminate so I re-glued everything stripped the rust and painted.
Made up a piece of plywood, covered it in the leatherette and installed behind the rear seat.
Copied what I have seen other Sambanistas do when recovering the front seats and used a piece of carpet over the springs then foam, then finally felt padding before putting the cover on
Now I don’t have to sit on my paint tin anymore, when I pretend to drive it yippee
After a bit of tweeking here and there happy with the result.
Installed small pieces of Masonite to stiffen up the springs, and replace some it looked like the PO installed, it actually made quite a difference to the support.
Started installing the carpet in the rear luggage area. First made a template for the side cover with some cardboard. Then cut out some Masonite and covered in the leatherette.
The fit was very tight, just sort of popped in there, so it didn’t need any screws to secure
Rear interior finished
I wasn’t happy with the paint finish on aluminium part of the wiper arms, so I sanded the paint off and polished them up, I think it looks heaps better.
I am currently finishing off the passenger seat and then it will be back to mechanical. I’ll try not to be so long between posts next time.

That's a stunning Karmann Ghia right there. Silver goes so well with all the beautiful curves on a KG. Will be keeping an eye out for this beauty when it finally graces the road again. Sensational work Rich !! |

Thanks for posting photos of the rear luggage area. Mine wasn't completely trimmed properly, plus a carpet kit of lesser quality was used. What carpet kit did you buy? |

Thanks Rick,
When I started my apprenticeship I did 3 months of wire looming, first with just twine, before they let you use cable ties, I guess it was a useful 3 months afterall.
I will definitely make it the Nats at least in person, dont think the Ghia will make it this year. I was aiming to be finished for Nambucca but even that might be a strentch, I'll have toi see how I go |

No prob Woreign. The carpet kit was from Kevin Ferguson at Trimtec, its german square weave with all the rubber sown in at the right places. Pricey but I only wanted to buy my carpet once.

Hey Rich,
Thanks mate.. it took me a while to chose the right colour. I ended up going for a cranberry red in leather. Here's some more pics.
The carpet kit isn't Kev's, however is GSW which i had the local trimmer make up to original specs. I am waiting for the rubber mats from John Lemke which should finish the trim off nicely.
Look forward to having a chat at the Nats... cheers Sash

Lovely interior; makes me wish I did not have to remove my legs to sit in back! I was going to ask if you were planning on providing the rear heat vent openings, but you probably do not need those anyway
It gets very cold where we live and the carpets in back have no opening, so I fold the corner of the carpet up in winter. But, you just gave me an idea for what I'm going to do today!
The interior is probably the worst thing in my Ghia, as I have store-bought seat covers hiding the original driver's seat with saggy springs. The carpet set is a terribly fitting replacement that might be for the wrong car, judging on how the shifter hole is two inches forward of where it should be.
I'm jealous of all the fine interior skills you blokes have down under.

Thanks Paul,
The rear of my 62 doesnt have heat vent openings, I think thats only on later ghia's.
I will be running heater boxes though for a fully functioning heater system. Whilst our winters are mild especially compared to you guys, I do intend on driving in the highlands and mountains close by which do get a bit cold and heat will be a nice luxury.
By the way what was the idea I gave you? |

The idea was to take off the trim rings from my rear heat vents and cut the openings in the carpet. As it was, the carpet hung down over the vents, so I had to fold them up out of the way. I never paid attention to whether or not the early Ghia's had the vents back there, so thanks for the enlightenment. Although I rarely carry a rear seat passenger, the vents are handy for pushing the warm air forward because they blow under the seats. Ironically, the pedal area of my car stays warmer with the rear vents open, especially with the bus blower turned on.
