Thanks. Been following the Contingents thread and admiring your VWs. You guys gotta good thing going there and you're keeping it going great. I'm chomping at the bit to get back to the US and take this square for a ride. Two weeks left!
Wheels are being changed to Gurneys. I was a bit torn with the gasburners not making a good fit and looked at possibly going with Sprintstars. I have to give props to vwfanatic67 that has been working on the square while I'm over here. He's been hitting it hard making things work as this car is making a 1600 mile trip to the MidWest. I've not known a person to go out of his way in selling a car to do what he's doing. My experience has been all positive. The guys upfront and has alot of integrity and he built me a very nice engine. I couldn't have asked for anything better as it's all been great. I anticipate more pics. Have a good one. _________________ MonT3

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't place Speed Masters as an option although a good looking wheel. I like the Raiders but the square sports 4 lug and I have no plans on changing it over anytime soon. I've noticed far more options with 5 lugs, whether wide or not. But that's ok. _________________ MonT3

Drove down to a friends about a 180 miles round trip this weekend to help install Westy top. Car ran awesome. That's puts it at about 250 miles on the new engine. Another couple hundred and I will change out the break in oil, check head torque, adjust valves, etc. It does have an extremely small oil leak from the fuel pump so I gotta reseal that. Other than taking out the 13 so check tightness on fuel pump no tools required all weekend. Monte this things getting cooler by the minute. Better hurry and come get it for I change my mind and keep it. JK. _________________ "white trash but worth every cent"

HAHAAHA!!! I'm just about stepping out the door here!! I'm hurrying!!
Glad to hear your trip went well all the way around. I think that small leak is pretty darn good considering all you've done. I'm not sure what the 13 you spoke of is. Maybe re-tighten bolts as you've mentioned? But re-sealing a small leak isn't bad as long as it's accessible. Hat's off to you as it's a testiment to some skills used to bring the car back to life after being dormant for some time.
Were all gauges functional?

Yeah I was talking about a 13mm wrench to tighten the fuel pump. The fuel guage is not really working properly. When you fill it up it goes to half a tank and when it gets to empty you have used 4 gallons. Not sure if is just a bad gauge or sender. I am going to look into that tonight. _________________ "white trash but worth every cent"

Cool, thanks for the update on the pump and carbs. You're in for alot of questions when I get there to make sure I learn what you're going thru right now. Got alot of catching up to do. _________________ MonT3

Had a good day. Took possesion of the square and had a good time meeting up with vwfanatic67 along with several of his friends. Great group of folks. Thanks for making me feel welcome. I'm extremely pleased with the car. VWfanatic67 made the final touches with an oil change, change to the fuel filter, checking and tightening valves and checking the points. He's made this experience a good one and I feel I've gaind a great friend.
Now to the square and a couple of pics which you may have seen from previous angles.
May need to find a way to get more leg room from the drivers seat. Cleaned up the front seats and panels along with the back seat. I'll be hitting the remaining during my trip north. Tomorrow starts a 1600 mile trip home. Will be fun.
Picking up the spare tire in the AM and closing the loop on a few things and off I'll go. Have a few items to work on but nothing that may affect the cars ability to get me home.
Can't wait to start this trip! _________________ MonT3

WOW, no use buying a 'fixer upper' I guess. Start with a show car!

Mike, I take your comments as a compliment. The car has a few areas that need attention nothing that's a show stopper or would cause a malfunction mechanically. When I get it home, it'll be gone thru as the Dakota winters can be long and I need to get heat into this square, maybe a snow plow up front . I'm looking forward to working on this car. A tow strap is a good idea as I didn't think of it. Just not sure where I could set that up on if I had to use it. The car is low up front and I suspect the apron would get damaged if I tried to tie up to the beam. _________________ MonT3

Monte, the car looks great. Enjoy the drive home, and watch out for idiots out on the road, that will be double necking to get a better look at your ride. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
