I have collected a few headlights and bit over the years but for now I'll pull these down and fit different glass.

Here is the glass that was fitted, they are hella glass.

Anyone have a picture of a trunk liner fitted to an early beetle.
Does the speedo cable tube sit on top of the liner or does the liner sit over the top?

I carn't find a picture of one fitted to see how its done.

ok with a bit of head scratching and some cardboard yoga I got the front luggage liner fitted.

Seems to fit ok, not really sure where the jack and crank handle should go? they both don't really fit down the side of the spare wheel.
So i guess they sit here.

Spent the last few nights out in the shed pulling down the 25 hp motor.
So far every thing has come apart with out any problems.
I'll put some detailed pictures up as its really interesting to notice the many little differences.

Wow!

This is a really nice early postwar car, all the really hard stuff to find is already there, this should be a fun restoration, getting the motor correct and you have little left to do, great to see another pre 1949 car being put together right Smile
*Love that riveted popes nose, been ages since I've seen one of those!*

Best of luck and lots of fun with this one!

Tom

Now I have a few questions.

I wish to paint my bumpers and with doing so should I paint the door handles and headlight rims?

Or with painted bumpers would you still have chrome headlight rims and door handles?

....means hubcabs and bumpers are chromed...and for me it seems on the pic that the headlightrings, the fronthoodhandle and doorhandle are chromed too.

Thanks for that picture.
I have papers that say my car was exported to Switzerland so it in fact could have had chrome. Would it say on the birth certificate from VW?

Pulled the engine down tonight.
First time pulling down an engine this early and really it the first 25hp motor I've pulled down so it was very interesting comparing it to 36hp stuff.

So here are some snaps of the engine.

Here is a good shot of the dip stick area

As you can see very different to a 36hp case

A few more general pictures.

Note the different oild cooler mount

Here you can see two different types of barrels. From what I understand the ones on the top row are early and the ones on the bottom are the later 25hp.
In this next shot you can see more differences in not only the fins.

The one on the right is the early 25hp

Last shot for the night is one of the heads. Is this what I think it is ? a kdf head
And if so is it 1942

Jumping back to replacing the fuel cap with the correct cap.
I need to get my hands on a seal. I'm 99% sure it would have been cork and not rubber but where would I find a seal to fit the early cap.

Are they the same seal as on a later 100mm cap?

I checked the spare part number in 1945 and in September 1950 is the same > the same seal. The number 2 01 557a

Thanks Mika, I should be able to find a seal now knowing it will fit and work with my tank and cap.

Hello-

Your case looks great! Do you know what type of media is used in the web blasting?

Cheers,
