I have one spare spring you for free, but I fear to send it. Because I read on newspaper, Finnish Post has a new main sorting machine which destroys 100 kg letters per day! Embarassed

Last few weeks I have not had anytime to touch the car as I have moved home. But a big thanks to Mika for the semaphore switch spring which I hope to go a head and fit to the car this weekend.
I would hate to loss it as its very small.

Another thing i'll be looking for is a period correct horn. The one on the car at the moment is much later and doesn't work. Not sure why at this stage but will look into it.

The semaphore switch has been installed, tested and working well.
I also have now got a period correct looking horn which I will pull down and paint to suit the car.

I also got my hands on another motor. It came from Spain and I had it shipped via rail to Germany. From there is was repacked and sent to Holland and shipped out to Australia. Here it is at long last.
As you can see its what I believe to be a late 48 25hp motor.

Some of the barrels are early 25hp

But best of all it is a lot more suited to my car than the early 50 case I have.

I hope to pull this motor down and get it all cleaned up in the next few weeks.

Today was a great day!

All the time I have had this car I have not really driven it much or gone any great distance. The car had spent 2 years sitting in a museum which was great for me at the time as I was moving and building a house etc. The last thing I wanted was pack it in a shed full of building materials etc. You know what would happen.

The car never ran well, I knew this as soon as i got it but that was not going to hold me back.

After working out that the car had no advance it was time to remove the Dizzy.

The rotor button would not move, it feels like its seized to the main shaft.

A while ago I got another and I was hoping this would be ok or good as a spare.
When it turned up it looked like new.

So after pulling out the old unit and replacing it with the new spare as seen here.

It now runs like clock work. It revs and out on the open road it steams along.

I think it would even pull a skin off a custard. Wink

For some reason the aircleaner has had a bit cut out, maybe it was to clear the engine lid?

As you can see it looks a bit strange.

This is the underside of the air cleaner, just thought it might be of interest to some.

I also have another aircleaner, its a different make. Not sure which is correct for the car. Its the one on the right.

I think both air cleaners are correct for your can, they are just made by two suppliers, Mann and Knecht.

I also believe the cut is made because of later intake manifold.

I fitted the replacment aircleaner that is round with no cut out and it does fit under the engine lid with it closed.
It is close to the lid and I think thats why it was cut out.
One of the main reasons for this could be the 36hp mainfold but the engine mount rubbers are old and have gone like jelly.
The motor has dropped a little and this is also helping the aircleaner clear the lid.
I noticed this the as the crank handle takes a bit to get though to the crank nut. Rolling Eyes

Its really hard to get time these days to work on the car but every little bit helps.
The tail pipe on my muffler is just made up of gal pipe.
It works and its never going to ware out but it looks so wrong being round.
I collect this other tail pipe at a swapmeet many years ago and it was going to be used on a 54 beetle but now its finding a new home on the split.
I'm not sure if its the correct profile etc but it's going to look better.

Now I have a few questions.

I wish to paint my bumpers and with doing so should I paint the door handles and headlight rims?

Or with painted bumpers would you still have chrome headlight rims and door handles?

I think all of those items were painted on the '46. Also, I think the correct tailpipe was flatter than that one, but I could be wrong. Got to be some period pics out there somewhere that can show that.
