I have the engine on a stand. It has a 6v flywheel and 6v battery. All I have is a 12v coil.

Will the 12v coil work ok? or does it need I need a 6v coil?

On a stand operating without a load it might start and run. It shouldn't be harmless enough to try, the resistance of a 12 volt coil is higher than a 6 volt coil. The spark will be weak.

Get a 12V battery and you can use the 12V coil. Usually the condenser doesn't care but it might not like the voltage changes.

I've never heard of different condensers for 6 volt cars versus 12 volt cars.

They are the same. I was referring to changing the voltage on the same condenser back and forth.

You can always run a 12V power supply to the coil.

Will a 12V battery hurt the 6V starter?

I run a 6V starter with a 12V Beetle.

No, I have been running my 6 volt starter for like near 40 years on 12 volts, it will spin fast. if your engine dont start I'd avoid very long cranking however, just so she dont overheat the starter (say dont crank her for minutes at a time) . But I have well in excess of 150K miles of 6 volt starter running on 12 volt.
Go for it.

The 12 volt coil will give about half the spark voltage if run on 6 volts, so you will have a very weak spark if running six volts on a 12 volt coil, it may run poorly with that.
