I'm searching for a rear chrome bumper for my '72 411, because the one I currently have would cost too much to straighten and rechrome (I'm assuming). Do any of you know if THIS Type 3 rear bumper is a suitable replacement for what I'm looking for?

http://www.vwispwest.com/product.php?productid=27235&cat=373&page=5

Also, do any of you know who might sell the rubber impact strips? If anyone has a spare rear bumper they'd like to sell (with or without the impact strip), please let me know!

Thank you,
Stephan

So if I already have the mounts from my original bumper, is there a way to make it work?

My son backed my 67 square into a light pole at Best Buy! The Chrome Shop pounded out all the dents with their air hammers and rechromed it like new for $250. The overiders were $40 each. I do have some rusty/dented early/late Type 3 bumpers with rubber strips here in Harrisburg, OR.

$250 ain't bad, considering how much shipping on a bumper is. Here are a couple of photos of my rear bumper. It's not in terrible condition, but it's definitely bowed in the middle. It also has a few small rust spots and two strange holes drilled near the center (it was this way when I bought the car). Are the rubber strips on the Type 3 bumpers the same as Type 4s? If so, do you have any ones in decent shape to sell? The ones on the rear are in fairly good condition, but my front bumper needs a replacement strip for sure.

Hello, do you guys know if 411 side mirrors will fit a '71 Squareback? They look in good condition I just have to put in the glass and rubber.

Do you mean a type 3 squareback or a type 4 squareback?
The type 3 and 4 mirrors use the same screw therads and gasket. They are interchangeable. However...type 4 mirror design is unique to type 4. Its a different shape. It would be a waste to put one on a type 3 when type 3 mirrors are so plentiful. Ray

So are you saying they wouldn't look ok? Reason I'm doing this is because I want 2 side mirrors for my Squareback type 3. I have only the drivers and I just obtained 2 mirrors that just need glass.

Here's what I got currently:

Heres what I want to put on:

Oh they would look great on either car. The type 4 mirror is actually very nice....kind of art-deco-esque if you look at it carefully.
But they are also much more rare. There is shortage enough for type 4's...but don't let me stop you!...they are nice! Ray

My '71 square had those short arm mirrors. My drivers is Good on my '69, but the passenger needs a new hex & threaded stud welded on it. I've got a long arm mirror to rob the stud off of. I'm taking them both to Precision Machine for welding soon!

P.S. I think I've got a better bumper than yours with the rubber strip. I'm only 100 miles south of Portland sbritt if you want to come down and buy one?

Is it a rear bumper, Mike? That's what I'm looking for. I have a new front bumper already, but I need a new/better rubber impact strip for it (it has a chunk missing on the passenger side). The impact strip on my current rear bumper is fine, but I haven't measured to see if both the front and the rear are the same size (they should be, right?). So ARE the Type 3 & 4 bumpers interchangeable, provided one uses the Type 4 mounts? I've heard both "yes" and "no" regarding this.

Mike, send me a PM with the price and pics.

We won't know if they will interchange unless you bring your 411 down and we compare them! I nice set $200 1 funky set $100. The nice set has no overiders. The funky set has 4 overiders and a trailer hitch!
