Nothing special here but knew you were looking for ideas, I used hammered gold rattlecan paint for the tin, black for the rest. No Saints color scheme represented here, just a coincidence. PO drilled so many holes in the shroud I was worried about it's ability to cool the engine, had to do something. Yep, that's one of those transparent distributor caps, hadn't gotten that replace when the picture was taken. I'd advise against using that, not only a poor part but pretty cheesy IMHO. _________________ Gary

That is exactly the kind of pic I'm looking for.. Nothing fancy on my buggy( to lazy to keep chrome clean) Mine will be like that but yellow and black. I am trying to talk my wife into an exhaust like that.. _________________ 68 Type 3 Square project (needs alot)

Here's the one in my 69 bug and then the one in my Allison Daytona. The 69 is mostly painted and the Allison is all "Bling".

Actually guy/gals, I hate to burst your bling bubble, but tests have been run, and chrome tins actually make the engine run about 20 degrees hotter.
The chrome reflects the heat back onto the engine, instead of letting it pass through.
The factory chose the right color for their engines. Semi-gloss black is the best for heat dissipation.
VW tried on their first engines with a gray color, but that did not last long. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I heard about that. To try and combat against it I painted the underside with a thick layer of flat back to stop the reflection.
So far no heat issues at all. _________________ Brent

I would recommend a flat black. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Yea I know about the heat issues. Thats why you need to do something to the underside where you can, painted mine flat black and haven't had any issues at all. _________________ Gary

FreightShaker, this for a buggy?
If so, go for what you like. They are so open that overheating is really minimized, with a properly tuned engine.
The red engine drove from MA to NC with no overheating issues. The blue engine runs like a top in IL, and the chrome one is happy in Canada. |

Here's mine. I would agree that the chrome tin makes it run hotter but if you have your fuel mixture and the timing right it doesn't get too hot.

Here's a couple of my engine, I stayed away from the chrome and used powder coating, actually if it stays fairly clean, I'm happy!

not everyone will agree....my 2-cents, "like the chrome look"....mine doesn't run hot, even in the deep south summers...

I don't get it. My engine is chromed out to some extent and I daily driver it in the heat in SoCal. No problems overheating.
I sense that it is more important to dissipating heat on larger engines or modded engines. Mine is a 1600DP with dual 44 Webers for a little pick me up. She runs like a champ.
