My favorite was VW Trends. The thing I liked best about it was the black and white pictures. Bright colors scare me. I also appreciated the phonetic spelling because that made the magazine approachable to more readers. |

I liked the columnists in VW Trends, DB&HVW is just okay. VolksWorld rocks, great features on American cars too. Camper & Commercial is great if you are into buses. Looking forward to pick up a copy of Airmighty. |

It depends on what kind of VW I'm working on/building/dreaming about. For restored stockers and customs, off-road vehicles and coverage of racing and toy VWs, it's Dune Buggies & Hot VWs. For VW-based kit cars, it would be any of the kit-car magazines or DB&HVWs, which I have seen many kit cars in, mostly Pumas and Porsche replicas. For water-cooled cars and Vanagons, Volksworld would be my choice. VW Trends was a good all-purpose Volkswagen magazine, but it was foolish killing that off in favor of a tuner-car magazine (Eurotuner) IMHO.

HotVWs is my mag of choice. I still have the first issue I bought back in '83. _________________ 63 T1 Ragtop Gulf Blue

Back when I was getting into ACVW's, (the mid to late '80's) I had a subscription to VW Trends for a number of years. It was the only VW mag I could find on the news stands near me and I did like it at the time. This was before everything they published was modified or chopped up cars buses and trucks. As this was not my thing, I stopped subscribing and buying. I'm surprised my relatively conservative parents would buy the subscription for me as I was in my early teens and they had many bikini-clad lovelies in the mag.
One section I used to read religiously was the editor's Pile of the Month. It was great. Dan Leadbetter rocked. _________________ 1970 Campmobile Click to view image

I liked Hot VWs before they gave in to pressure and stopped using gal models, oftentimes in swim attire. Their readership is like 99% male, and yet they gave in to pressure and stopped the practice in the 1990s. I couldn't believe that a few complaints made them do this change, what a bunch of wusses !!!
Popular Mechanics (maybe 98% male readers) had complaints that the girls in the boating articles were wearing swim attire, and almost axed those. Unbelievable.
Now Cosmo, with maybe 98% female readership and 2% gay, can show or print articles about anything !!! They have this in my gym. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. It's well worth the price, lot of feature on American built VWs and good coverage of some US events too, even some US advertisements. |
