Just use proper plastic wax to protect the plastic deck lid.

There used to be a guy making them in Mexico and a guy used to sell all clear plexiglass ones at J-bugs / Calif. Pacific interiors, but that was many years back. No '67 year but I think they were '68 - '79 type.

You could see the bondo repair in the master in the finish part.

I had thought of doing them like the above technique with using a metal OEM deck lid, cutting out a section and then using Polycarbonate sheeting and cal look rubber to mount it...but I have far too many other better products to work on these days.

I think we need to see a side view of that 74 vw Think

it seems to be mostly a single curvature so I would have thought some acrylic sheet and a heat gun would do the job...

If you really gotta......
I once made pillars for an antique juke box by heating plexiglass sheet in a home oven. Pull it when it's pliable and press to your form, trim later. I suppose you could take the light off the decklid , patch any holes with aluminum duct tape, then place the hot plastic down and smooth out with leather gloves. Also recommend polycarbonate over other plastics.
I would have to see the finished product to approve the effort expended to achieve this look, but that's how I would proceed. Good luck.

Ian Roussel builds plywood form bows and heats the plastic from below with his gas BBQ and sags the plastic sheet into shape.

As mentioned earlier . . . . I have always been partial to those VWs,
especially the Cabrio's with the clear engine deck lid
