Does anyone know where I can source or purchase a 094 Locking Diff Carrier?
Weddle is sold out and will not be getting anymore

This may not help, but I installed a Peloquin TBD that is also a locker in my front differential. It utilizes the syncro servo mechanism. It would be an improvement over a stock open locker. _________________ ☮️ |

Hey Mark, thanks but I am looking to build up a front diff, and having a TBD would be pointless for my front because I have a decoupler, and I will only be locking out the front when in sand.
If I went that route, I would have to drop my rear trans and take out the rear diff carrier and move that one to the front, and then put the TBD in the rear. It's more work and money than I really wanna spend and do..
I appreciate the advice though!! |

Here was my logic for the tbd Quaife locker in the front. When the front is locked. The only usable direction is straight. Turning requires slip angles or you snap a cv. Not all trails are ice, sand, and mud. So when coupled, you can drive and have a usable front wheel drive. If the trail deteriorates, you then lock the front.
So, the Quaife gives you both options. My guess is in most conditions you wouldn’t even need to lock the front. But it is there if you need it. And it’s available or was.
I am using my VC and really don’t notice the Quaife in normal driving conditions. _________________ ☮️ |

Mark,
I didn't know Quaife made locking diffs.. I am guessing that will be a special order?
I looked into them to build me an LSD for my 901 trans, because I have been searching for years for a ZF 904 LSD. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I am also looking at TB units |

We were talked out of Quaifes for our Syncro rebuilds. We went with Peloquin's and are happy with the outcome. Enough that one of our 2wd 4 speeds is getting the same and the locker. We bought all the locker parts years ago and have been sitting on them. |

My mistake. I have a Peloquin in my front differential. I ran a Quaife in my road race car. Similar design. Sorry about that. _________________ ☮️ |

i would love just keeping my plain open diff in my 2WD and having a locker. know enough to not break things! even just having separate L-R parking brakes would satisfy me. _________________ -dan

So after 3 months of searching and talking with people all over the world.. I was finally able to get a locking diff carrier...
Currently, collecting the parts needed for the retro fit but I have some questions.
1. Does anyone know the thread pitch for the locker switch, I will need to purchase a tap.
2. From schematics I have seen it looks like the front lockers only have 2 spider gears, my current locker has 4, can I still use four for the front? See photo below.
3. I want to add the the blinking engage light for the front, but I do not know where I can get the circuit board for that. I also want to add the spring twist knob engage the front locker. From what I can see there's an added tab on the pull switch that needs to be a lined before you can pull the knob, is that correct? Please see photo below.
4. Does anyone have a photo of the vacuum lines connected to the plungers for a triple knob? Trying to figure out where the "Y" connector should go.
Other parts coming in.
Vacuum Servo
Locker Servo Bracket
Locker Knob
Locker Valve
Locker Valve Nut
Locker Dash Bracket

The tab is correct, it does need to be lined up to pull the knob out. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Take a look at this page on my thread. It has the electrical line schematic & vacuum line routing.

We've had 904/901 LSDs and TBDs available for almost 20 years ..

What would be the average service life of one of these before it would need to be rebuilt? What lube are you recommending? Now that the syncro has moved on I’m considering adding an improved differential for our 2wd. Thanks. _________________ ☮️ |

Steve M. - Thank you! Now I just need to the PCB and the Vacuum sensor, or just have it as a pull out with no twist and no blinking light..
mackaymanx - Super helpful, thank you! This will make it so much easier to machine the case
gears - Yeah I know of GT, I actually emailed Matt back in November 2020. I am looking for an original 904 LSD but I have considered going with an aftermarket LSD/TB, GT, Quaife, etc, that's if I my search wants to end. |

The latest disc/plate combination reportedly lasts two full years in a pro race car. Two years vs every other race (which was prior longevity). 2 years in a pro car translates to WELL over 100,000 street miles .. probably more like the lifetime of the transaxle.
I'm hoping Syncro LSDs will be available in 2021. These of course can be used in a 2WD Vanagon, but without the fully-locking feature.
