I really like how you are tieing the rear bumper into the cage. Got me thinking... |
Thanks. It'll be a little more beafed and need to be tweaked a little, but I think it's a solid and simple approach. _________________ My Build Post

bently book puts all torque specs at the end of the chapter, so its on a page or two, its about the only thing in the book that is well organized, nice when you are doing something you already know how and just need torque ref.
I also recommend you disassemble clean and reassemble the carbs. Its not done right unless you did it. and write down all the jet and vent sizes for later tuning purposes. _________________ [email protected]

Even if you have a carpet kit, I'd probably bedliner the whole interior pan.. Prevents rust, and deadens noise...
The car looks really good - I like the kids seat mounts. You might consider mounting their seats higher so they can see out, though...!
On your exposed metal (roll cage, seat mounts, bumpers), I'd use Rustoleum Hammered. It looks great if you don't brush it too much. I repainted my front beam after wire-brushing most of the paint off and you don't see any imperfections... |

Thought I'd update the build, nothing significant but a few pics of the motor and the cage. I integrated the BMW 3 series seat belts and got my MST serp system. The MST serp system is of the best quality I've seen. Very nice .
My seat brackets (copied some others, Neanders I think, Thanks).
I know the pictures are not the best but the finish on the cage turned out really good. Notice the beer . May or may not be the best inspiration. _________________ My Build Post

I just found that having some Scat tins, some stock tins, and some China tins is not a good idea. A grind here a snip there......and it fits!
I'm also having a bit of trouble getting my serp kit to line up right. The alt pulley is way in compared to the crank pulley. Is there shims that I can put behind the alt pulley on the alt shaft? I got some but they only fit behind the fan. _________________ My Build Post

Also not to mention that those aftermarket shrouds put out way less cooling then a stock shroud.
i'm having similar issues when i put some aftermarket scat cylinder tins. it seems the provisions for the fan shroud (which don't even line up 100% with each other), are a bit farther back. i had to bend the tins, and cut them, and beat them, just to get them to fit. also the fan likes to grind like crazy. I have to periodically kick the fan shroud to get it to stop grining, due t the awkward angle the cylinder tins are holding the shroud. its a stock shroud, and the only aftermarket thing are those damn cylinder tins. Never again will i buy afterarket tin. When i do get the stock tins back on, i'll prolly cut them up to use for scrap metal (cause they are kind of thick). I don't want anyone to end up with that shit.
Anyhoo, enough ranting, lol . looking awsome. Keep the pics commin. _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

if you take your pulley off there are a bunch of shims in between the pulleys and behind it. you adjust these to set the belt tension on a stock pulley. so if you bought your alt new and that serpentine system probably doesn't use them, then you need to order a set of these to get the pulley set up without any runout.

The Scat tins seem to fit well, and work good with the stock cylinder tins. The China tins are the ones with the miss cuts, and unaligned bolt holes.
RLAP those shims look like they are the same ones I already have. Where do they go? on the alt shaft right behind the pulley? I just need to move it out from the alt. The shims I have are big. The shims I have appear to go in right behind the fan in the shroud. _________________ My Build Post

those are the ones that go between the pulley halves on a stock alt pulley. they go around the collar on the inner half, which in turn goes arounf the alt shaft. so its obviously going to be bigger then the alt shaft. do they sell shimms that go behind the alt pulley to push it out? you said it was way in. bout how much? like 1/4 inch, 1/8 inch, etc? is the strap tightened down all the way? _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress
