Anyone have an idea what a new sand rail/kit would have cost in 1995? For some reason my insurance company needs to know after being with them for 4 + years. These things are getting harder and harder to keep street legal.
Thanks |

If the insurance company doesn't know, pick a number, not sure they could dispute it. |

You need to look at "Fair Market Value" for your rail. That's different from Blue Book and is used to value insurance payoffs. The insurance company will try to use Blue Book prices. Of course, they won't find anything but they'll make a value determination based on that. Insist on Fair Market Value. If it's just for Liability Insurance, it's no big deal but if it's full coverage, the difference in values is quite a bit. |

Hard to get a fair market value. Stock stuff should be valued less than aftermarket stuff. Stock vs stroker, stock vs mid travel, drum vs disc. Get a stated value policy. Had no problem getting one of those thru progressive. _________________ My cut in half and rebuild thread

I dont have full coverage on the thing, so I have no idea why they are asking this. I dont know if they are trying to find a way out of insuring the thing or what. It makes no sense, and my agent has no answers as to why the under righters are asking for it. |

Ya know now that I think about it, I do believe that my insurance company did the same thing when I first got the policy. I had to trailer it to Arizona DOT for a Class Three Inspection to make sure it was street legal. Then I sent photos of the paperwork to my insurance people for a temp policy so i could drive it with a temp tag. Then to DMV for a Title and ID plate, then an Emissions Test and a license plate from DMV.
Then the insurance company wanted a value! Beats me! I got a good deal on a partially assembled frame and had a Ford V6 engine with an adapter on a transaxle. Thing was: Since mine was freshly titled for the first time by me, it automatically became a 2021 Model. I used a Side By Side as a comparison and hit on fifteen grand. No questions since and my liability insurance is cheap. Look at Side by Side prices from back then. |

I had to give a value for my '74 Chenowth 2RL as well, straight out of the gate. The agents I insure through told me they've had trouble with assuming what they're worth, and then if something happens and the owner says "hey no way man, that thing was worth 28K not 5k!" and the lawyering begins. So if it's documented on their side, even if they aren't financially responsible for replacing it, (i.e. liability insurance) the negotiation at least starts with some semi-factual basis.
Probably, like everything, the agenda runs deeper than that, but that's what they told me. FWIW, they also contacted me last month and had a discussion about the "unprecedented increase in value and market scarcity" of my 2015 Tacoma, and my insurance went up 30% this renewal. I have a 790 credit score, no documented accidents ever, and no tickets of any kind ever, and I bought the truck outright in cash. So screw me right? _________________ 1974 Chenowth 2RL #1244 Street Legal

Just wait for the inflated value of our rides to increase our personal property tax. _________________ My cut in half and rebuild thread

There should be zero effect on property tax. Around here additional buildings only effect property taxes if they have a foundation and are considered permanent. Garden sheds, canvas garages and the like are exempt. I don't see how a vehicle could be considered permanent. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. We are fortunate to be able to pay personal property and real estate taxes. _________________ My cut in half and rebuild thread

MO assesses just about everything you own for personal property tax. Cars, tractors, livestock, etc.
Real estate tax is on your house, business buildings, or property. |

Right, real estate is just that and personal property is everything else you own. Fortunately MO is a poorer economy than a lot of other places so the property taxes really aren’t that high.
Far as OP’s question, my insurance company wanted a value for my ‘65 Baja but it was for full coverage. They were happy with a valuation from a local vw parts place on their letterhead.. _________________ Forced induction can overcome a lot of obsticles that gets in it's way
