Check this out:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=114010246

Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo) and Benjamin Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) take the stage together to perform songs inspired by the writings of Jack Kerouac, in a full concert recorded live from Washington, D.C. The performance features music from the duo's new album "One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Music From Kerouac's Big Sur".

Thats the first song on my "nelsons ledges vanagon road trip cd."

If you know anything about nelsons ledges, you can pretty much guess the rest of the songs on the cd.

satellite radio makes road trips a bit nicer, plus when camping in the boonies, you still can get some good tunes.

Grateful Dead channel of course, also with the Jam On, Coffee House and Jimmy Buffett channels too. Of then also like anything with some Bob Dylan too

Kraftwerk. Is always appropriate in any German auto.

Phish sucks, so does pearl jam, and jimmy buffet. Just a personal opinion though, perhaps I'm too young for that. Or maybe they just suck.

also, just listened to all 22 minutes of autobahn by kraftwerk. It was...interesting.

Yep! X90000! Kraftwerk Minimum-Maximum is my preferred road music.

Yes - they actually suck. I just loathe hippie music. The food is good, the girls are better and the weed is great.

We often read on long trips. My wife does voices for cartoons and anime so she really makes a book come alive. On the last trip we got about half way through "The Dome."

Strawberry Alarm Clock
Peter Paul and Mary
or how about a little Arlo Guthrie?
Jackson Brown
The Who
and who can live without Elvis Costello?
Joe Jackson
Souxie and the Banshies anyone?
Rich Mullins
Chicago
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians
Indigo Girls
XTC

So much music, so little time.

Yes! Definitely Chicago and Blood, Sweat, & Tears. Also, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin. And newer rock: Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana.

There's being too young for some music, but you can't ignore the masterpieces...

Oh man...we're showing our age. Most of that "newer rock" as you call it is 15-20 years old already. I hear it on the oldies station!

Newer in comparison to The Beatles or Pink Floyd... Besides, Smashing Pumpkins are still making new songs (regardless if its only two of the original four members).

Fine, "New" stuff: The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, Modest Mouse...

I also like to listen to Comedy shows. Demetri Martin is good stuff...

Posting an opinion about a band shouldn't offend anybody. If it does, I'm sorry you're so sensitive about your music.

Did anytbody mention the boss yet? Particulary the album nebraska and the river? Nebraska is a great album.
