All are RHD and all are '54, as that was the first year VW's were sold here.

Cheers, Rhett.

It's still in existence. The owner is a member on this site, maybe he will chime in.

On the subject of Aussie BDs, here are pics that I took arround 1989 - 1990 in a town called Riverstone near Sydney at a time when I lived there.

I had heard rumors that there was a BD abandoned, sitting in a field in that town. The only clue was that there is a cemetery near by. So I went to investigate and within half an hour or so, I found that sucker! Exciting stuff as I had never seen one in real life. At that time there were no BDs at shows or driving arround.

Sorry for the repost, as I already put these pics in the "rotting away in fields" thread, but this being the BD forum, I hope nobody minds.

I wonder what happened to this bus. After sitting like this for years one day it was just gone, so I really hope it was saved.

Hey guys, The First two busses were wrecked in the 80's, But the other 3 are under resto or awaiting resto, and all are still in Australia.

Last one is a sunroof bus, but it had the roof covered with tin. It has the sky light pressing under the hoodlining.

Thanks for looking, Rhett.

I was in Sydney in '93, I believe the south side at a VW shop. They had a painted barndoor std. sitting in the back of the shop. If I remember, it was mostly a shell. I would have to dig for the photo of it.

Y'know, I realise people are looking after that BD and other vehicles like it that have gone to the UK but I'm always a little sad to here that really unusual buses are gone from our shores.
Between our currency and simple distance the amount of buses that ever make it back must be negligible. Sad
I guess were lucky it didn't go the same way as those first 2 that were wrecked in the 80s.
And talking of wrecked Aussie BDs, a guy here found an 11-window BD shell on the back of a wreckers truck that someone had stoved in the roof using a crane arm.
He told another bus addict and it was retrieved and now awaits resto.
He current owner even managed to find a new roof for it.
How's that?! Very Happy

A barndoor roof?
If so, that must be quite a find in Oz.
