Well I finally got a birth certificate from vw fro my bus, cant say its very exciting though

engine number: not available,

So I will never know if the engine I got it with it is the OG

Colour: not mentioned

Well I know its dove blue as it still OG paint ,

And 4 M codes , non of which show up on the M code lists

008
076 (samba list as single cab? well i can rule that one out)
085
120

The chassis number is 104 144 and the gave a build date of nov 11th
According to the samba list November starts from chassis number 106 736

Confused Shocked Crying or Very sad

The charts on theSamba VIN page show the LAST chassis number for that calendar month. So the date VW gave you is probably correct.

Was the engine # really not available or did you not give them the engine #?

They won't give out the engine #s anymore but if you tell them your engine #, they will verify if it is the original according their records.

I will add those M-codes to the list.

What was the original destination?

My VW birth certificate (which I can't find now) says that my '54 is a walk through. I was thinking to let the staff at VW roll-over and then try it again.

Yes I gave an engine number, so does engine no "is not available" mean what I sent didant match. I will have to email and see

The OG destination was The Netherlands (as on certificate)

Most of it was changed, it was a kombi down as a panel to start with and that was not good, was partly my fault but they were great to deal with by mail and charged me no extra Wink

did they ever include the engine #? I got my only birth certificate 10 years ago (back when you could submit for it online and it was free) and mine didn't include the engine #... along with many other things...

The birth certificate for my '53 had the engine number on it.
I got that certificate over ten years ago, maybe it was 14 years. It was before I discovered email, if that makes a difference. I paid 10 Deutsch Marks.

Yes, my '63 certificate from 2002 has it. All my earlier ones have it too.

I got mine in about '93 I think. maybe '95. Guess I could look at it , it might say.
The engine number on the certificate was the number on the engine in the bus Razz

Keith... they can't be the only two! I am sure that Pon's had a bunch of VWs go through that dealership. Have you seen old pictures of Holland? Full of VWs. A Dutch guy who tried to get the tag from me said that all the Dutch import VWs went through Pon's distributor ship, and they probably stuck tags on all the buses, even if they were sold out of a different dealer. Maybe on the bugs too (?)(maybe not?)

Not only that, I have seen a couple in people's display cases.
Still, nice to see Smile

looks like mine is as messed up as everyone elses. i'm disappointed about the 053 being wrong, since my bus has the rear hatch. seems like a lot of options for a kombi? i will contact heike, the person who handles these at the museum, to see if i can get it corrected. they seem pretty good about returning emails at the moment.

I know the plates becouse i am from holland.
These dealer badges are put on by pon in the early days.
And this pon is the inventor of the vw van.
As you can see in the museum in wolfsburg.
