I've been driving the Dozen 45 miles per day since last week and it's been mostly enjoyable...
I don't like being caught in rain though... |

That is a very good looking Type 4, dogmai333. |
Thank you! I got it out of Cody Wyoming off of eBay. Right now I am putting new struts and shocks at all 4 corners and coating the tank 'cause it's corroded on the inside. _________________ VeeVeeOne is my baby, She is a 1983.5 Vanagon GL (Two-Tone Blue Baby, Yeah!). |

Here is my 73 412 with 52k just after I purchased it. Auto, fuel injected, interior in super shape, some rust issues. I've sandblasted the rims, put on new tires and went through a thorough cleaning. I still need a new muffler and to fix a left rear oil drip. I'm not sure the gas heater works. Haven't dared try it yet. I'm in Fargo, ND. You don't see many 412 here. This was purchased new at "Alan's Autohaus" in Fargo, ND in 73.

After the muffler and oil leak I'll probably start working on the body work. The rear fenders behind the wheels have holes and the rocker panels are flaky. The whole underside of the car needs some scraping/sandblasting and some new underbody coating or something. I'm not an autobody person, so I'll probably recruit some help so it turns out nice.
Mechanically the car is pretty solid. It has a little hesitation when you first take off. You have to let it go by itself and then it will go fine, if you try to take off quick it will almost die.
I would love to replace the rear lap belts with full seat belts and a lap belt in the center. My two kids like to ride, but currently only lap belts in the back.
I'm sure there are a lot of little things that will nickel and dime me, but I should end up with a nice 412. |
